he never disappears. not sure what you mean by that but i speak to him every night before we both go to sleep.... a lot of things are on his terms and his schedule, but if i ask for things from him, he tries to come through and usually does. he is there for me when i need him and seems to do things for me if i am having a hard time, not well, etc. but in general yes, they are on his terms...ashamed to say it! does he work long hours? I guess my dh was like this when he first started...he did sort of retreat....or he'd just mumble to himself and snap at me if I said "what?" thinking he was talking to me. This was when he was an analyst working 18 hours a day. So he was stressed and tired. As he moved up in the banking world, I guess he wasn't as tired (But still stressed) so then he had more time to be home and want me pamper him (which by then we had the kids so I didn't have much to give) [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I love DH and he is great father and lots of great qualities and personality traits which he shares with our DS. however he also has certain qualities that I don't love so much and I am not crazy about they may impact on our DS. And before you jump down my throat these are not things that I would have remotely thought about discussing before we had kids. For example DH teases a lot and he calls DS names in a teasing manner. He htinks they are only words and he is joking and it is no big deal, but I think that DS is to young to appreciate sarcasm and doesn't get that daddy is kidding when he calls hims a filthy little animal. I think that if a kid hears that all the time it will affect them. Same goes for calling DS a "bad boy" if he does something wrong. Don't get me wrong but I think there is a difference between a bad thing and a bad boy, and hearing that he is bad boy, as opposed to telling him that he did a bad thing, can affect his self esteem. Am I over-reacting or am I right? and if I am right and DH won't stop doing this how would handle it? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i can't. sorry. this is business, not personal. you get dh to pitch in, you find out from the ped why dc is always sick or you find another childcare solution. [ Reply | More ]

Wow, you are a peach. I never stay late, but am the first one in the office. You sound like someone who likes the appearance of hard work rather than actual hard work. [ Reply | More ]

So, it is the appearance. Some people want to work early mornings, others late nights. Why do you care? [ Reply | More ]

read again. she neither works late nor comes in early nor works on the weekend nor manages to get through the week without some childcare-related crisis. [ Reply | More ]

Sorry, I misread. It is late and I am working and doing this. That said, this has nothing to do with day care. This seems like a problem with her. [ Reply | More ]

Her issue is not the use of daycare, and for you to use her as a reason to never hire another woman who uses daycare is a ridiculous generalization on your part. [ Reply | More ]

no, its her issue. The overwhelming majorityof daycare mothers do not have a childcare related crisis every week. If you dont know this, get out into the real world. [ Reply | More ]

Then I hope you pay them enough to hire a good nanny. Also, most mothers I know take days off when dc is sick regardless of nanny v. daycare. [ Reply | More ]

Funny, because when I had a nanny, she was sick more often then my dd. If we didn't have backup daycare through dh's work, I would have had to stay home. While in daycare, dd has only been sick a few times. So I guess you never know. [ Reply | More ]

I'm a wohm and had a nanny until February. My kids are in 1st grade. The week after my nanny left, one of my twins was sick. The other was fine for school. So I had to schlepp sick one to school for the well one's drop off, take the sick one home and work from there. We have afterschool stuff, where I drop them off, but it's a lot of juggling. Lucky for me my boss totally understands [ Reply | More ]

My dd is only 19 mo so I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I have only missed a few days of work due to illness (probably 5 or fewer). We've been lucky, I guess. [ Reply | More ]

I have never had a nanny. I use my sick days when she is sick, which is not that often. Also, remember if a kid is really sick she/he want her/his mom anyway. [ Reply | More ]

Daycare is great for kids. Builds their immune systems, socializes them, and costs less than a nanny. [ Reply | More ]

I am between 2 one is 7 blocks away from home the other 10. My hours arent set but I have lots of backup - family in the area, money is not tight but its not a "non issue" either. My major issue with a nanny is having one stranger form this bond with my child.... [ Reply | More ]

Depends on your job and what kind of flexibility you have. Daycare is great b/c of socialization, less potential for personal drama, etc. However, if your kid is remotely sick they can't come to daycare and you'll have to miss work or have some kind of good backup. My own job doesn't ahve that kind of flexibility. [ Reply | More ]
