any wohms? i have a question about how often you end up having kids home sick? i've always used a nanny and i'm thinking of switching to daycare and i'm worried about not having someone in the house every time someone is home sick. (2 school age kids and a 2yo). tia. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I posted below. At what point is group care ok by you (and I'm not judging)? Preschool? Or are you just talking about toddlers in daycare... [ Reply | More ]

She's being honest. I appreciate someone being honest about life in the big city. But seriously, what about women with school kids? It's kind of like daycare with all the germs, no? You can only keep kids one-on-one with a caregiver for so long.... [ Reply | More ]

I'm a WOHM with my own company and I will hire ANY capable woman who produces 200% because if she has to leave early, we will all pitch in and I know she will log in from home, work late and go the extra mile. so many bosses need to wake up and start thinking outside the box. it's about PRODUCTIVITY [ Reply | More ]

yes, but at a certain point, if you're missing several full days a month and not staying late or coming in on the weekends, you're not productive. [ Reply | More ]

If she's got a kid who is that sick, the problem isnt day care. Be a little more understanding. [ Reply | More ]

i can't. sorry. this is business, not personal. you get dh to pitch in, you find out from the ped why dc is always sick or you find another childcare solution. [ Reply | More ]

Wow, you are a peach. I never stay late, but am the first one in the office. You sound like someone who likes the appearance of hard work rather than actual hard work. [ Reply | More ]

So, it is the appearance. Some people want to work early mornings, others late nights. Why do you care? [ Reply | More ]

read again. she neither works late nor comes in early nor works on the weekend nor manages to get through the week without some childcare-related crisis. [ Reply | More ]

Sorry, I misread. It is late and I am working and doing this. That said, this has nothing to do with day care. This seems like a problem with her. [ Reply | More ]

Her issue is not the use of daycare, and for you to use her as a reason to never hire another woman who uses daycare is a ridiculous generalization on your part. [ Reply | More ]

no, its her issue. The overwhelming majorityof daycare mothers do not have a childcare related crisis every week. If you dont know this, get out into the real world. [ Reply | More ]

Then I hope you pay them enough to hire a good nanny. Also, most mothers I know take days off when dc is sick regardless of nanny v. daycare. [ Reply | More ]

Funny, because when I had a nanny, she was sick more often then my dd. If we didn't have backup daycare through dh's work, I would have had to stay home. While in daycare, dd has only been sick a few times. So I guess you never know. [ Reply | More ]

I'm a wohm and had a nanny until February. My kids are in 1st grade. The week after my nanny left, one of my twins was sick. The other was fine for school. So I had to schlepp sick one to school for the well one's drop off, take the sick one home and work from there. We have afterschool stuff, where I drop them off, but it's a lot of juggling. Lucky for me my boss totally understands [ Reply | More ]

I have never had a nanny. I use my sick days when she is sick, which is not that often. Also, remember if a kid is really sick she/he want her/his mom anyway. [ Reply | More ]
