[ - ] Venting: Stupid, insensitive SILs...at a baby shower they threw and playing stupid shower games. One game is whoever's birthday is closest to baby's due date wins a prize, etc. One question is whoever has the most children, but they must be children that you yourself gave birth to or you can't count them. Is that not the most ignorant thing you have ever heard? I have a number of friends who are adopting and those children are their children. Irony is that one SIL had her babies through IVF. You'd think she'd be more sensitive to the challenges of conceiving and the joy of having a child. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It's not even about challenges of conceiving -- only counting children that you yourself gave birth to is completely ignorant. I hope you called her on it. I would have -- but then I have an adopted son. [ Reply | More ]

Funny, we're sending DC there for pre-K b/c it was where we got in (only other accept was inferior school), not because it was our top choice, but I loved the tour. Why do you say it's ugly? Charming location that's like a West Village oasis [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Just came from a play date where the mommy was complaining about parking in the city. Apparently, this woman has a garage in her building (Chelsea) and takes her car (with ds & dd) everywhere: doctors appointments, play dates, nursery school. She said she spent $1000 dollars a month on parking alone (not including her garage). Am I the only middle class mommy left in Manhattan!?!? I guess if I were that wealthy, I hire a car or get taxis. 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

She is a dumb mommy. It'd be cheaper to get a cab. I cab everywhere when I need to and saves me a great deal of money. If I have to go a long distance, I might take an express train (say from uptown to downtown), get off and hail a cab to avoid high cab fare. [ Reply | More ]

We drive our car in the city occassionally, but mostly take cabs since no matter where you park it is $25+ even for 30 min plus you then have to walk where you go. Main advantage to driving your car is you have the car seats, though. [ Reply | More ]

Give them each their own room, but have one of the rooms outfitted for a guest room. When you have guests move them in together (get a trundle). This worked well for me and my brother when we were growing up. [ Reply | More ]

I think they were calling people first BEFORE they started assigning seats because it would be unfair for DOE to assign all the seats and give leftovers to those whose applications they think might have lost. [ Reply | More ]
