[ - ] I am wondering if somebody in D3 (or maybe even D2) can tell me how the lottery works? You list you schools in order of preference? Any of these kids get a school but if it is far? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

you can put your name in for any school offering spots in the lottery for which you are not zoned. if they call your name, you win. sibs get preference in the future for future lottery spots as well. [ Reply | More ]

That's not at all how it works in D3. Just was at the lottery last week. There is one single application. You list up to 5 schools (out of the 20), in order of preference. All applications are assigned a random number. When they get to you, they give you your highest-ranked school that still has slots (if any). First they go through D3 sibs, then D5&D6 sibs, then all other sibs, then D3 non-sibs, then D5&D6 non-sibs, then anyone else. Well, they never get past the first 50 or so D3 non-sibs, at least for the more desirable schools. Sibs almost always get in. MSC has a separate lottery. [ Reply | More ]

Is every school in D3 in the lottery or only schools that choose to be? [ Reply | More ]

Most of them, but with varying numbers of seats. 199 had 3 seats available, 180 had 5, 87 had 35...it depends on the school. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] my ds 12 m/o has a fever of 103.8 so i called the doctor. she said not to worry; it's normal for young kids to have high fevers; his fever isn't really that high anyway; and if he still has it on monday then we should come into the office. she also said to give him motrin (which i've been doing all day). STILL, i feel like a fever of 103.8 merits a little more concern that what she gave or am i being hysterical???? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

A fever by itself is no cause for concern in a one-year-old. The issue is whether he is lethargic or seems very "sick" even after Motrin. Sorry, but the fever is no big deal. [ Reply | More ]

OP: that's what i wanted to hear. thank you. it's just that he's coming off a round of antibiotics for an ear infection and when we went to the md on wednesday for a well-visit the doc said she still saw a lot of fluid in his ears. i have to assume the two are related. [ Reply | More ]

some kids just run high fevers. An hour after the motrin, what is his fever? Does the motrin have an impact? Also, have you tried a luke warm bath? I find that actually works better than anything. [ Reply | More ]

Baseline fever is 100.2 for kids, so 103.8 is technically not that high (although it is generally high enough for me to freak out and call my ped). We would alternate motrin and tylenol every 3 hours until the fever came down (per ped instruction). My ds is still pretty happy go lucky when he has a fever that high (just won't eat anything and naps for a really long time). The other poster is right-it is more about how they are acting than how high the fever is. [ Reply | More ]

Just remember this, a fever is the body's way of fighting off disease. Your DB has a fever for a reason. It is his body working to fight off what ever is trying to get in. The body heats up for a reason. to kill bacteria. No wonder your ped did not respond. They get calls like this all the time. I know it is scary but deal with it. Fevers happen for a reason. [ - ] My sister has it made...her dh does everything. she never goes to grocery store, he comes home and bathes her ds and puts him to bed...has a full time nanny while she "works" at home. She freelancers and most of the time I call her she is at yoga, at lunch or shopping. Her dh had to go on business trip and she hired second nanny for weekends. Her ds is 4 BTW....there are days when she complains of being tired that I want to scream "FROM WHAT!!!!" 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

love her....just get a little annoyed when she tries to compare her life to others. for example, my other sister works her butt off, goes to school 3 nights a week and spends most of her free time with her dc. We were all together and when she complained hat she didn't know how she was going to complete the semester since she was near exhaustion my pampered sister chimed in I know what you mean being a working mother is very hard. Now, I am having A LOT of pain when she nurses that I can't power through. Her latch looks good. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

The pain is terrible at the beginning every time they latch on and lasts around a week to 10 days (at least that's how long it took for me ). It should feel a little better 1-2 minutes into a feeding but still pretty bad. Keep putting that lanolin cream on before and after you nurse and let your nipples air out a little. Power through if you can. [ Reply | More ]

(I can reply to posts, but not to replies. Weird.) Yes, it hurts. I ebf two babies, and it hurt both times. If you have scabs, be sure to put some antibacterial cream on them (Neosporin, Bacitracin, etc.). Wipe off before nursing. What is happening is that the baby is chewing her way onto the nipple. What I did with the second: put baby on lap, gently pull her jaw OPEN, jam nipple in, pull baby up to you. It sounds harsh, but it worked. Still, latch was painful for about 10-14 days. Once you are over the hump, nursing is so great. Like my mother said, feeding your baby will never be so easy again. [ Reply | More ]

I was in agony. My nipples were cracked and bleeding and I was in so much pain I would cry each time I breastfed. I called my OB who was a huge help. Gave me an Rx cream for my nipples and that made everything better. [ Reply | More ]
