I've been trying to figure out why Hillary supporters are so angry. It's a political campaign. People lose, people get nasty. I started wondering if it had to do with identifying with her maybe too much as a woman who is less respected than she should be. The older I get (I'm pushing 50), I find that my opinion is rejected by people (who don't know me) more often, and I imagine it will be worse when I'm pushing 60. Women don't get the respect we deserve. That said, I voted for Obama for what I felt were sound political reasons, and I get a little tired of people attacking me for it, or, ironically given their anger over a lack of respect for Clinton, assuming I have been taken in by his charisma or something (a few friends have done this). I thought DH was going to order dinner tonight, but when I was done w/ the dinner /bath / bedtime routine for our 2 yo tonight, he had decided he wasn't hungry and didn't get anything. What does this have to do w/DH or whoever it is you live with being a smoker? Are you saying bc this person smokes that they dont eat?? Or bc they are a smoker they dont care for your DC? I think more underlaying issues here, not smoking related. BUT if you mean by "A smoker" you mean POT then that puts a big spin on things. If you are leaving DC home w/drug user then yes you have issues. [ Reply | More ]

DS accepted into both schools. Yes, I know they are very different. He comes from a school similar to LAB (lots of collaborative work), but has a personality that seems to fits well with NEST. However, I do have some concerns about NEST re: support provided for the MS students. LAB seems to be more nurturing. [ Reply | More ]

UL here. Lab has historically retained more students for HS. Usually, we only lose students to the specialized HS. Some of the students who got accepted declined the specialized HS placement and opted to stay. Some went to the specialized High's and came back within weeks. However, this fluctuates from year to year. It is in no way even near 30%. It is way much higer. With that said, one thing that a lot of people are not aware of is that Lab is no longer a 6-12 school. It became two schools about 3, 4 years ago. The separation is more apparent this year because DOE caught up with Lab and basically told Lab that they have to operate as two schools. The Principals this year told the parents and students that acceptance into MS does not gurantee a HS seat anymore. See, the Chancellor's Reg. note that a student at a school is guranteed a seat until terminal grade and the MS terminates at 8th grade because Lab is not a 6-12 anymore. I cannot say which one I will pick since I never pay much attention to the NEST MS. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks for the feedback to all who've responded so far. Just getting back to my computer tonight to check responses. It is the point if your nanny is there all day with your kids and is looking to leave at 8 and you get in after that. Maybe she has a long commute? I'm always really aware of the long day and the long commute home. If 1/2 hour extra pay for you being late is the payoff for a content child care provider, maybe you should not feel so bitter about it [ Reply | More ]

I pay overtime for babysitting outside regular hours. My babysitter is occasionally 15 minutes late, though, so I don't think she could see herself asking for extra if I am occasionally 5 minutes late. I will round up to the half hour if I'm 10-15 minutes late, though, or at least throw in a few extra dollars. [ Reply | More ]

we would go out to dinner and she never needs a time for us to get home, she always says whenever. But for example, tonight we got home at 10:08 and she charged us for the 1/2 hour. No, she isn't always on time, she is always at least 5 minutes late and I don't doc her on it. She gets $900/week to start and charges us an additional $20 for over time sitting on the weekend and during the week. I think at some point there should be a judgment call when it comes to charging for that 1/2 hour. [ Reply | More ]

Can't reply to your post. $900 for how many hours. And is that 20/hr for extra babysitting. Yeah, asking for the 10 seems like overkill, especially if she is regularly late. [ Reply | More ]

If your nanny is always late then you need to talk to her about this. This is just a matter of fairness. If she doesn't want to be docked 1/2 hour pay for being 5 minutes late, she can't charge you for being 5 minutes late. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] If my 3 yo ds had his way, he would only eat pasta, avocados and chicken tenders. Oh, and pizza, cheese and apples. I am not interested in being a short-order cook and expect him to eat what the rest of the family is eating. I am nice about it but firm. I put everything on his plate and ask him to taste it. I try to offer at least one thing I know he will eat. But sometimes he melts down and won't eat anything. How should I handle? I am trying to be consistent about this but it is hard. He used to eat a greater variety of foods so I'm sort of flummoxed about this. TIA 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

In my experience, kids who used to eat a wide variety of foods revert to a few things ONLY when they turn 3yo and they come out of it at 6yo. My two kids did this. And my brother's kids did this. All of a sudden at 6yo they were back to eating a variety. Who knows what's up with that? Maybe toddlers require more carbs and less vegetables and meat [ Reply | More ]
