anyone have a nanny you pay over time for evening sitting? Ours keeps charging us a half hour even if we come home at 5 past 8, and it's really starting to annoy me. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It is the point if your nanny is there all day with your kids and is looking to leave at 8 and you get in after that. Maybe she has a long commute? I'm always really aware of the long day and the long commute home. If 1/2 hour extra pay for you being late is the payoff for a content child care provider, maybe you should not feel so bitter about it [ Reply | More ]

see below -- op said the nanny routinely arrives 5 minutes late. The nanny is the one taking advantage. [ Reply | More ]

I pay overtime for babysitting outside regular hours. My babysitter is occasionally 15 minutes late, though, so I don't think she could see herself asking for extra if I am occasionally 5 minutes late. I will round up to the half hour if I'm 10-15 minutes late, though, or at least throw in a few extra dollars. [ Reply | More ]

exactly, i think that's only fair. She can be 15 minutes late and I don't take it out of her salary. [ Reply | More ]

As long as it is not the norm that you are coming home late, I agree. [ Reply | More ]

I always round up anyway with an evening sitter. But are you saying she is working extra evening hours, or are you saying that her normal hours end at 8 and she charges you more if you are 5 minutes late? Also, does she always arrive on time? [ Reply | More ]

we would go out to dinner and she never needs a time for us to get home, she always says whenever. But for example, tonight we got home at 10:08 and she charged us for the 1/2 hour. No, she isn't always on time, she is always at least 5 minutes late and I don't doc her on it. She gets $900/week to start and charges us an additional $20 for over time sitting on the weekend and during the week. I think at some point there should be a judgment call when it comes to charging for that 1/2 hour. [ Reply | More ]

Can't reply to your post. $900 for how many hours. And is that 20/hr for extra babysitting. Yeah, asking for the 10 seems like overkill, especially if she is regularly late. [ Reply | More ]

If your nanny is always late then you need to talk to her about this. This is just a matter of fairness. If she doesn't want to be docked 1/2 hour pay for being 5 minutes late, she can't charge you for being 5 minutes late. [ Reply | More ]
