[ - ] We're in the process of potty training our 2.5yo... had a couple of successes this morning -- one was good timing, the other on her own. The last few, though, she seems unsure/anxious about the feeling to eliminate and wants to be held. How do I handle this? Tried getting her to calm down a bit and sit on the potty when I knew she was feeling it coming, but she ended up holding onto me tightly and peed most of it on me before i could get her down. ok to hold her on the potty more firmly next time she does this? 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

find out what she is afraid of. maybe let her pee on one of those portable potties or someplace else. sometimes they're afraid of the flush (they might go with it). we used to say, 'bye bye pee, you go there, i'll stay here.' don't force!!! [ Reply | More ]

don't push her or it wont' happen. Maybe just put a big jar of jelly beans and m and m's out and show her and tell her whenever she uses the potty she can have 2 or 3. Then let her decide. Also, it helped my kids to let them pee sitting on the toilet with hteir diaper on to get used to it. Then slowly get her used to the idea of removing it. [ Reply | More ]

This is ds exactly. When he starts acting all crazy and clingy, I know he has to go. I take him in bathroom, lock door and act all nonchalant. Sometimes he decides on his own to sit on the potty (we usually read books while he does it) or he will start to pee and I say "quick let's sit down and finish on the potty" and he does. It's tough bc he holds it in all day to wait for diapers so we are doing cold turkey with underwear every where but crib. [ Reply | More ]

nnp. What do you mean, "just for this"? If it's enough of an issue to make you freak out and post on UB, where you MUST have known you'd get flamed, then it's worth taking her to the ped. Before you try to make dd lose weight or stop gaining, you need to have the ped verify there's a real problem. [ Reply | More ]

nnnp: you can't tell if an 8 yo looks fat or not. I am the one saying OP should work on portion control. every person I know who is fat and denies snacking eats 3 squares a day...usually heavy full meals like I ate growing up. some people, if not most cannot eat this way. [ Reply | More ]

That's fine, but my point is before she even thinks about working on portion control, she should get an actual medical opinion about her dd's weight. OP sounds like she has too many of her own issues to just start trying to change her dd's eating patterns without professional advice. [ Reply | More ]

not junk food, but likely more calories than she needs for her activity level and growth at this point. I would work on portion control. same thing happened to df's 6 yo. she was feeding her the same size meals as she did when she was a rapidly growing toddler who spent hours at gym class and the playground. the kid started packing on the pounds. portion control is what you need [ Reply | More ]

Thanks for the link. I think her points are very valid. And you are probably right about naturally thin people eating as much. But in my DH's case, eating less and more importantly following South Beach has resulted in him no longer needing meds for Diabetes II. He thought his endocrinologist was full of crap when she said he wouldn't need them if he dropped 25lbs, and she was right. Now, even when he treats himself to a dessert or candy, his blood sugar levels do not spike. It's been amazing. [ Reply | More ]

I had this problem. I advertised for a nanny/housekeeper and I was extremely clear in all interviews about the job duties. I have two kids, but both are in school and all the cleaning was to be done during the 15 hours that there were no kids at home (previously all the cleaning was done by a separate cleaning lady in 8 hours so 15 hours should have been plenty.) 4 months later nanny/hk wanted me to hire a cleaning lady. I tried to make it work, by sending out the laundry and doing some parts myself. But it was clear that he attitude had changed and the first time I mentioned something about something not getting done, she quit. I saw it coming and had started interviewing. [ Reply | More ]
