Bring up the original contract and tell her that you would be happy to renegotiate. If you get another cleaning person, you will lower her salary. negotiate in good faith and see what she wants. [ Reply | More ]

op- the other thing is... the job is sort of cushy. db sleeps sometimes 3-4 hrs during the day. I really don't see why she can't quietly clean during this time. she'll tidy up but barely. [ Reply | More ]

I had this problem. I advertised for a nanny/housekeeper and I was extremely clear in all interviews about the job duties. I have two kids, but both are in school and all the cleaning was to be done during the 15 hours that there were no kids at home (previously all the cleaning was done by a separate cleaning lady in 8 hours so 15 hours should have been plenty.) 4 months later nanny/hk wanted me to hire a cleaning lady. I tried to make it work, by sending out the laundry and doing some parts myself. But it was clear that he attitude had changed and the first time I mentioned something about something not getting done, she quit. I saw it coming and had started interviewing. [ Reply | More ]
