We're in the process of potty training our 2.5yo... had a couple of successes this morning -- one was good timing, the other on her own. The last few, though, she seems unsure/anxious about the feeling to eliminate and wants to be held. How do I handle this? Tried getting her to calm down a bit and sit on the potty when I knew she was feeling it coming, but she ended up holding onto me tightly and peed most of it on me before i could get her down. ok to hold her on the potty more firmly next time she does this? find out what she is afraid of. maybe let her pee on one of those portable potties or someplace else. sometimes they're afraid of the flush (they might go with it). we used to say, 'bye bye pee, you go there, i'll stay here.' don't force!!! [ Reply | More ]

don't push her or it wont' happen. Maybe just put a big jar of jelly beans and m and m's out and show her and tell her whenever she uses the potty she can have 2 or 3. Then let her decide. Also, it helped my kids to let them pee sitting on the toilet with hteir diaper on to get used to it. Then slowly get her used to the idea of removing it. [ Reply | More ]

This is ds exactly. When he starts acting all crazy and clingy, I know he has to go. I take him in bathroom, lock door and act all nonchalant. Sometimes he decides on his own to sit on the potty (we usually read books while he does it) or he will start to pee and I say "quick let's sit down and finish on the potty" and he does. It's tough bc he holds it in all day to wait for diapers so we are doing cold turkey with underwear every where but crib. [ Reply | More ]

I agree - try a different potty. we are having good luck w baby bjorn potty - can put it in whatever room we're in and ds feels totally comfortable sitting on it. doesn't need help from us getting on/off. [ Reply | More ]
