that is totally wrong. Why post if you don't know the answer. 44 inches. It's by height, not age. Most K kids do have to pay, but my 6 1/2 year old just hit 44 inches, so it really depends on the kid (and, btw, no one has said anything yet about her paying. It happens more often on the bus b/c the bus driver is right there). More importantly, if you live more than a mile from the school, your child can get a free MTA pass. If you live more than 1/2 mile but less than a mile, your child can get a half fare pass. [ Reply | More ]

apparently there's a height where they're supposed to pay, but most schools give a free metrocard to elem students if they live more than a mile away - good for buses, not sure about subways. At any rate, I didn't start paying for my kids until they were around 3rd or 4th grade. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Ugh. DD is becoming really really bad lately. She is turning 2 next week. It seems like in the last 2 weeks she's been acting out like crazy. She's hitting other kids if they snatch her toys and snacks and freaks out when I make her share. Today she wanted to play with a little girl's toy and she hit her when the girl wouldn't share! I stuck her in the corner of the room and told her that she was being really bad. It's so embarrassing and I hate that my once sweet little girl is turning into a terror. Help! 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

yes - i think you can tell her that the behavior is bad without telling her that SHE is bad. but you should definitely get accross to her that that kind of behavior is bad and not acceptable. in as few words as possible. then distract/redirect. [ Reply | More ]

definitely not unusual. She is being a normal 2 year old. I agree with redirecting, maybe a time out, though they don't really work for us. I think it is a phase they must outgrow, and they will when they can communicate better. Agree that it is embarrassing, but this is what little kids do. [ Reply | More ]

One other bridesmaid paid for half the cost of the room and the other ones contributed to the cost of the bride's (my 1st cousin) spa treatments. I think if an event is too expensive, then you can say no thank you. Once you agree to attend, then you are on board for your share of the expenses even if your plans force you to cancel at the last minute. I will say, I think that when people plan showers & bachelorette parties, they are often inconsiderate of those who may wish to participate and are on a different budget. [ Reply | More ]
