I got pregnant one month after going off BC at age 36, then couldn't get pregnant again. Thought about IVF, saw a fertility guy after trying for 6 months, but we don't have the money for multiple IVF cycles and the stress was too much. Decided we were lucky with our one perfect child. Good luck to you-- very stressful I know. Whatever happens for you will be the right thing. [ Reply | More ]

Yes LOTS of problems with #2 that resulted in IVF. No.1 was a breeze... Had two miscarriages and suspected chemical... Blocked tubes and evidence of endo - just to highlight what we found after years of trying... Basicially I'd say we tried seriously for 2yrs before resorting to IVF... Before that we just were plodding along hoping (about another 2 years)... Thought the miscarriages were just unlucky and we would try again... Had No.2 @ 36. [ Reply | More ]

I desperately want to leave dh and this job would give me the financial independence to do so, however, dh works less hours than me, more flexible schedule. He could be there for her more than me. [ - ] Can't decide if we should bring DS (20mo) on vacation with us. Going to Hawaii (Big Island) for one week wiht DH. If we take him, meals would be an issue (not an all-inclusive) and we'll prob. be limited to beach activities only. On the other hand, we've never ever left him before, so it's scary. And somehow feels a bit wrong to go have all this fun w/o him... anyone BTDT? We have a live-in nanny who loves him and is ready to do 24/7 for a week, so childcare is not an issue. 17 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

we always take dc on vacation if it's going to be more than 3-4 days, just because I would miss them too much and not really enjoy myself anyway. This is a very individual thing- he sounds like he'll be fine at home, so... it's about you and your feelings, and how much you need a kid-free vacation, etc. [ Reply | More ]

Aside from snorkeling, we've always managed to do what we want with the kids. Throw him in the backpack for the hike. You just adjust the itinerary slightly. We've taken kids to Australia, Peru, Yosemite; gone hiking, boating, camping, to the beach, skiing -- our vacation have only been enriched by exposing our kids to so many different things. i don't think she is just being politically correct - i agree that there is more to learn in school than just academics. frankly, learning that there are different types of people in the world and knowing how to get along with them will probably be more important than ap calc or the history of russian lit in the 1800s. we are making the exact same decision. (What school, by the way?) I think being exposed in a real way to all kinds and types of people is great for dcs and for us. There is absolutely NOTHING that a kid can learn in private school that is as important in the longterm as learning to live with all types of people.
