babies are different--my ds #2 didn't crawl until 12 months, didn't walk until 15; that's within the normal spectrum as long as he seems developmentally on target in other ways [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] PT Nanny works equal # hrs for another family (has been with them for 10 yrs)--Other employer is not flexible at all with hrs/days she wants nanny. Does not tell nanny her summer vacation schedule until 2 weeks prior--Obviously, affecting us now. Nanny tells me she doesn't like situation either, but feels loyalty to the other kids. Is there anything I can do to get quasi-equal footing? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OP: Had to step away for a few hrs. Other family had nanny FT for 10 yrs, then decided to cut her to halftime. Originally agreed to work around hrs of nanny's new job, but then other mom decided she needed her for specific schedule--which conflicted with our wants, but we accomodated her b/c the nanny was best we found in 6 months (live in suburbs, so hard to find). Now other family wants to dictate nanny's schedule as it suits them for summer w/o regard for us--not surprised, just want an equal say in schedule. FYI, the other mom is considered a b**tch my all the nanny's friends. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Here's a btdt that for you: I went to a "middle school" where we were all bunched in from several elementaries and left to fend for ourselves. I then went into a high school that was part of a K-12 school. I basically learned that the kids who had been at the school all their lives seemed to have had a much harder, more miserable middle school experience than I did; cliques intensified, etc. Also, the kids who had been at the school since kindy had a much harder time adjusting to college life. I have vowed never to consider a K-12 for my kids; kids really need to be exposed to different settings and people. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Are you looking at K-8 schools? There are very few private schools that don't include at least middle school and, speaking as the parent of a child in upper school at a K-8 school, I'm glad my dc is not experiencing puberty and a new school at the same time. I agree with you that it can be good for kids to experience change: my child will have that in 9th grade. You had the advantage that everyone in your middle school was new. [ Reply | More ]

That's interesting. I have that from many K-12 school parents about middle school being so weak. I think the middle school years are so hard on kids and its nice to have a new group of kids to distract or explore with. We are at a K-6 private and look forward to choosing a new school when the time comes. [ Reply | More ]
