i think, tho, that it short changes the kids in those programs as well as those who aren't. fwiw, my child is too young to even be considered for these programs. so ti's not personal. "gifted" kids too often end up thinking too much within the box. [ Reply | More

[ - ] My almost 6 year old son is talking back to us (his parents), balking at doing things we ask (like clean room etc). When we punish him--take away priveleges and the like, he says "I'm just a stupid boy, then" and "I am so mad at myself" and "You SHOULD punish me cause I don't know how to listen!" Even after the episode has passed, he gets really down on himself, says he's a bad child, etc. Now, I need to be able to reprimand him, but these sentiments he's expressing really have me worried. And today, we were going to go to the beach for a walk after grocery shopping. But he behaved badly in the store so we said "we're sorry, but we are not going to the beach because you misbehaved." At first, he was angry, but when I asked him why he said "so NOBODY gets to go to the beach because of me?? That's just not fair!" Any advice? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More
