op: I don't speak spanish unfortunately, I forgot to mention that my DC already has some spanish words and even counts to 10 in spanish just from watching Dora and Diego. I speak French, but did not want to speak to them in French since I am not a native speaker and though it was better to teach them gramatically correct English than not so perfect French to start with. Besides English, dh and I are fluent in one other language by birth and speak a number of others. We decided to only speak English and one other language at home. Hunter is a like lotto. The odds are that bad. Unless dc gets a 99 OLSAT forget about citywide G&Ts. District 3 lottery is out of reach. There are no acceptable district 5 G&Ts. If your friend is moving to Dist 5 where I live- be prepared to pay for private. And apply broadly. We were lucky to get off a wl at a 3rd tier school or we would be SOL right now. [ Reply | More ]

It's not too bad actually. PS180 zone is good, there is also one other good public zone in Harlem--recently reviewed on Inside Schools but can't remember the number.. If you are in the D3 part of Harlem, there are a lot of g&t programs, Hunter, Central Park East, MSC, and the D3 gen ed lottery. [ Reply | More ]
