funny, I know 5 kids at Hunter and none of them smile! I think they are probably sad miserable little creatures whose parents don't allow them to play because they are too busy making them do puzzles, read, do math etc...so they end up smart but not happy. Catering stores like Elis in NYC will deliver food baskets of any sort you want, even to the suburbs, I think (possibly with more than a day's notice though on the latter point). You could find a catering/gourmet place where she lives and have a basket sent from there. HOW can you see that? Those three schools you listed are already well above capacity. Don't punish them to give more privileges to g&t kids. Everyone deserves a decent education, and you can't add another 4 or 5 kids per teacher to the gen eds at those schools without the kids involved suffering--totally, totally unfair. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think the poster was suggesting moving the gen ed out. poster was just saying no room to expand G&T since there is a gen ed in the building. My point (I was the poster above) was if A could move out, ps9 could expand the G&T [ Reply | More ]

Move out to where? There are simply no more school buildings with any space, anywhere. [ Reply | More ]

The PS 9 catchment is very small. I don't think the majority of PS 9 is gen ed. The gen ed classes are smaller than the GT classes. Some grades have 2 GT and 1 gen ed and some grades have 2 gen eds and 1 GT. I think it's roughly equal. You could make the argument that given the huge demand for PS 9 GT and successful GTs in general, making PS 9 a GT school, or 2/3: 1/3 would make sense. The gen ed kids could go to 87 - they could rezone, even. But don't worry - this wo'nt happen. Too politically sensitive. [ Reply | More ]

87 already has SEVEN kindergartens and each one is above capacity--25 or 26 kids in each. No, you can't just send the 9 gen ed kids there. Gen ed kids shouldn't have to have even more overcrowded classrooms, and lose even more specialty rooms, just so a few more kids can squeeze into high-status popular g&t. [ Reply | More ]

Don't count on it. Brady hates G&T. [ Reply | More ]

it can't expand. the school cannot support more than 3 classes per grade and there seems to be a need for 2 gen ed classes. [ Reply | More ]

There are plenty of other G&T programs in D3. It's just that no (white) family wants to go to them. [ Reply | More ]

ITA! I toured ALL the g&ts, and many are really nice--like 145--but God forbid any of these lily-white princes & princesses sully their hands there. Instead, it's better to squeeze up those slow peons in gen ed, to make more room at the whitest, highest-status g&ts. Is this about the best education for everyone, or bragging rights and homogeniety? [ Reply | More ]

But only 2 that will allow the parents recognition, status, and near-constant bragging rights. And that's what it's all about, no? [ Reply | More ]

First step should be openeing a G&T citywide school in each of the other 4 boroughs. [ Reply | More ]

Everybody should get the chance to go out of district--even if it is a very, very slight chance. We can't all live in $$ neighborhoods. Signed, mom in a very crummy district. [ Reply | More ]
