np from below again: This was one of my beefs about Hypnobirthing too -- that if you do it "right", it won't hurt. If it hurts, you must be doing it wrong. It really sets you up for failure and regret, IMO. Also, I have a friend who was in a cult, and I found a lot of the techniques too close to the brainwashing she went through: "There is no pain. You feel wonderful."etc. I think it works well if you find that you can easily suspend your own disbelief. If you are a real critical thinker, it's harder to let go and give in to the hypnobirthing concept. [ Reply | More ]

Well so far I find it helpful for getting to sleep, so if that's all I get out of it, no harm done. The nutter in the book who claims to have had dental work done without any pain meds is obviously in a cult! [ Reply | More ]

np: This was my experience. My midwife said most people find it's helpful until they hit transition, then it all goes out the window. That's certainly how I felt. I used a visual metaphor of gently floating above the pain waves. As soon as I hit 5cm, I felt like I was being dragged underwater, over and over and over again. Oh well. [ Reply | More ]

I used the HypnoBabies CD course, but I had the Hypnobirthing CD from the book too. That one seemed a little more sane to me. In fact, maybe I'll dig it out. I'm 32 wks pg with #2, and it couldn't hurt . . . [ Reply | More ]

Well, sometimes kids do have accidents early on because of this. I agree. But then they learn to not wait till the last second to tell you, or they do go before you go to CP. It's not a bad lesson for kids to learn- that there isn't always a bathroom. Other than a few playgrounds I can't think of anyplace that is not near a bathroom. [ Reply | More ]

when we are at the playground, we are a few blocks from a public restroom. my dd has JUST started using the potty after being traumatized by it, and if she can't hold it until we get to a borders or wherever, i would rather her be able to use a portable potty behind a tree. this is not really that complicated. I guess that is why they make them. I just think they are gross. I would rather have had my dd have an accident and learn to hold it for a few minutes or go before we left home. [ Reply | More ]

you don't seem to understand. this has been a very hard process for my dd. an accident would really upset her, and set her back, and i don't want to risk that. i agree, they are not so pleasant, but i'd rather be not pleasant that upset my dd when there are other options available. she does go before she leaves home, but if we are out for the morning, that's a long time for her to hold it. i am trying to make this process as easy as possible on her, not you. Everybody loses it. You'll lose it again. It's okay. I think your response was appropriate -- getting kicked in the belly when you're pg brings out an intense reaction. It's okay for DC to see that. DC needs to learn that some things are way out of bounds and get an intense reaction. I don't see anything wrong with that. [ Reply | More ]

If she is going away I would not pay her for the day, but offer for her to make up the day another day that week. I would pay her if she is sick, but work out how many sick days per year. There is seriously someone out there who has an axe to grind regarding this school and I don't care what the reason is but its just wrong to delibrately disseminate false information. I think that by bashing another school you guys aren't helping any. Can we all just stop bashing schools? I don't mind reading about how happy someone is that their kid got into a certain school but it really sickens me to see statements like the above. I have friends whose kids went to LL and they said that school was awesome. I have friends with kids in schools all over the city and everyone wants to love and support their child's school. So can we just all stop. I am a NEST mom and I can tell you everyone (that I know of) finishing up K this year was happy and is coming back. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming school year at what ever school your dc is going to. [ Reply | More ]
