they are not sure if what they saw is cancer or normal cell tissue - need a little bit of time to see if it will grow or not [ Reply | More ]

OH... so it really is a wait and see what they see ? That does make sense. You haven't said where or what type of cancer, but I suppose the tissue cannot be easily biopsied ? Anti-anxiety meds for you may be a help... [ Reply | More ]

its a very rare cancer - they feel the risk of doing a surgical biopsy is not worth it right now and that wait and see makes the most sense. [ Reply | More ]

we actually didn't tell her the result of her scan - she was diagnosed when she was 3...she doesn't know of cancer as a scary possibly terminal disease...just something she had. She isn't afraid of the hospital or the procedures and scans are routine to her. In general she is an extremely good natured and mature kid. I'm sure she will soon find out that cancer can in fact be terminal, as one of her best friends from when she was in treatment is now in hospice care. We'll deal with explaining that to her too. First meeting (just went outside to check on something and there they were looking at the place) and the woman's question / comment was "Are your children usually outside at this time ?" my ds started meds at the end of 1st grade. It made such a difference for him. We have tried going off the meds but he really needs them at school. He used to climb all around and mess with things in his desk - anything but sit and listen. the first day on meds I asked him if he'd noticed anything different since he took medicine that am. He said "mom I didn't take off my shoes even once today." I asked if he'd been able to know not to do it and control it. he said with a huge grin "i didn't even think about my shoes all day." Meds are in and out of their system in 8 hrs or less. It really is worth a try and I felt we owed it to ds [ Reply | More ]

Yes. There are kids at many of the G&T's who fit this description. The key would be for him to be able to focus for the admissions tests. Does he like one-on-one activities? Board games, doing puzzles, reading together? If so, he might really enjoy the test. [ Reply | More ]

We are dealing with this right now. DS with ADHD/sensory issues qualified for citywide G&T. There are not really any special ed schools in NYC that can handle gifted kids - maybe one - which requires suing the city for reimbursement of $40 year tuition. The special ed schools are primarily for LD and ED, dyslexia or aspergers and autism. Twice gifted kids fall into a hole. [ Reply | More ]

I have no experience of this but I do have experience of looking after a newborn and a toddler full time. The main difference I have noticed is that I can no longer manage to take my ds out to the Park, zoo etc alone as he runs off and I can't leave the baby in the stroller to chase after him. If your toddler isn't a runner then I think it could work out but he won't get as much attention. [ Reply | More ]

NP and I have a nanny like this who has three kids. She gas brought all of them from time to time (not all 3 together) and it has always been great. She's wonderful and loves my son like one of her own, and I've never worried about her favoring her kids over him. Also, he's been to stay over at their house and feels really at home, which is a big plus (he's 2 now, she's been with us since he was 5 mos). I saydo it if you really love her. It's hard to find a nanny you trust the way you seem to trust her. [ Reply | More ]

I posted above about my nanny w/3 kids. Your gut seems to be telling you to work it out, so go for it. As I said, a nanny who you really trust is worth hanging on to, and if you respect her, she'll treat your child well. GL [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] No flames please. Just moved to Scarsdale w db and am trying to meet other moms. Went to storytime at Barnes and Noble and the local park. No dice - only nannies and babies and they are not interested in socializing w a mom. Any suggestions? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i go to a class at The Little Gym in Scarsdale and there are a lot of moms there. Can be tough to get to know them, though. They seem a bit cliquey. I don't live in Scarsdale, but it doesn't seem that friendly. GL! [ Reply | More ]
