NP: I was much more easygoing about giving formula with #2. unfortunately, like #1, she didn't take to formula (we stopped short of trying out every brand) and just wanted to BF! so she has pumped milk (what I could pump), the breast and milk at 10 months when my supply disintegrated! FWIW, I think it's totally fine to give formula at any point, especially if your DB will take it! :) GL [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] My 5wk old is having severe gas and constipation. We have been using Mylicon and Baby Bliss gripe water for Colic -if she doesn't have colic should I be using the regular one? - and after facilitating a poop (qtip with a&d), as recommended by the doctor but max once per week - she became regulated and then stuffed up again 6 days later where she was in incredible pain -so we facilitated again. We used up our sonce per wk. Any other suggestions? Anyone know anything about Little Tummies laxative drops? 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Are you BFing? FFing? I would experiment with eliminating dairy. It's extremely rare to have a constipated infant that age. [ Reply | More ]

I was BFing and giving her breast milk from a bottle...I eliminated dairy for a week - there was no change...what constitutes constipated? maybe I used the word too loosely - she has gone 30hrs 2x without pooping but pees a lot... [ Reply | More ]

I hope you're still there - Constipation is NOT how often a baby poos, it's only referring to the consistency of the poo. It is totally normal and common for a BF db to only have a bowel movement once a week. My 5 wk old was totally gassy, but they grow out of it after a few more weeks. That is a separate issue. If when your db does poo, if it is loose or pasty, but not hard or clumpy, she is NOT constipated. We also found gripe water to not work at all, but Mylicon did seem to help with the gas. But seriously, your db is bound to grow out of the gassiness in a few more weeks. Just bicycle her legs and soothe her a lot. She'll be just fine. Once she reaches 2 mos old, you can give her a tiny bit of diluted prune juice (one ounce) in a bottle and believe me, you will have her pooping in no time. But do not do this if she has loose or pasty stools, only for hard and hard to pass stools, and wait for a few more weeks. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Ugh..I just told dh that I read a blurb that Tiger woods may be retiring because of his bad legs. He got all sarcastic and said oh poor tiger can't hit a little ball around anymore because of a pain in his knee. I found this so pissy on his part. I'm not a golf fan but I do feel for someone who can't do what they love anymore because of a physical condition(I have chronic back issues). Then dh says well it's not like he's doing what I do all day (dh has a very physical job) THEN HE SAYS..you don't understand because YOU JUST SIT HOME ALL DAY. OMG I can't believe he went there. I'm a sahm with 2 kids, pg with #3 and have my back issues. I hardly JUST SIT HOME..I do all this with no hired help. As a currnet mandell parent, I think it is pretty clear that over time-say the next 5 years-there will be a shift in people applying to Mandell. I think it will shift from the rabid "tt or die" types there now to people who want to stay at Mandell until 8th grade. There is no way the psd wants to exmit at K and at 8. You can already see this differnce in the current pre-nursery class compared with pre-K. I do think psd will continue to exmit those who want to go, but unless you are goin to get into a tt she'll "encourage" you to stay. Just my opinion ladies. [ Reply | More ]
