[ - ] I think part of my problem with going to bed at night is that as each day goes by I know I am getting older. I should feel lucky I had several great loves in my life, but instead I feel disappointed, disappointed that I never found "the one" to share my life with. I am 43, and a truly young 43 at that, but I feel that my search is over, I mean all these men I met through all my life and I never found him. Signed, divorced mom. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] I started a blog as a way to update family on our kids. Waited until I had a few entries and figured out how to do it efficiently before I gave the address to family. Then, I updated daily for two days in a row. Now, it's been a few days and just as I predicted, MIL has already complained that I'm not updating enough. Sigh. Everytime I think something is going to make my life easier, it backfires. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

hmm, I thought about doing this. But I figured no one has time to look at it anyway (my sister has a blog, I think to look at it about once a month. Fortunately, she only writes in it about once a month). No worries for me re: my MIL -- she's got no memory, and I doubt she knows how to turn on her computer. What site did you use? Do you like it (other than the MIL problem)? I already keep journals for my two dds -- I don't know if I'd have time to do more (I feel like I don't have enough time already). [ Reply | More ]

I use the google site - blogspot, I think. I don't journal or even keep up with baby books. I try to take pics and email them but sometimes I wonder if the people I'm emailing them to are annoyed or uninterested. So, I started the blog so people could check in when THEY wanted to. Plus - MIL never seems to get any of my emails. I don't know if this is true (SIL has same ISP and gets them all) but this takes care of her email prob. Blogspot is very easy to use - I've been pleasantly surprised. Already figured out how to put a video on. [ Reply | More ]

We will also be starting in the fall at A. At the orientation, I asked an existing parent about the teachers. She said both K teachers are terrific, and whichever teacher you wind up with, you'll be happy with her. As for the upper grades, from other Anderson parents at the fundraiser, I got the impression that there are some great teachers and some not-so-great teachers, which sounds like many other schools (both public and private). k teachers are being switched around this coming year -- that said, my dc has had both of the "new" k teachers (dc is in an older grade) and LOVED them, as did we. we have not had a teacher there that we haven't loved -- and the specialist teachers have been wonderful too (the k-2 science teacher is particularly stellar). the ass't teachers are somewhat inconsistent, depending on who you get, but it's always a good think to have that extra set of adult hands in the classroom, so can't complain. Like most public schools, the teachers range from great to terrible. One of the 4th grade teachers this year has left, but she was in the terrible range. It's really hard for any public school to deal with the not so good teachers when they have tenure. That being said, the current K-3 teachers are all wonderful, warm, friendly educators. Buy a home with it bec they don't expect you to move out of your home to afford tuition. They take 3 or some % of assets and apply towards your HHI. Greater % if asset is higher. If they took 5% of $1MM, or $50k, towards your HHI, they will see that as your HHI is really $175k. With 2 kids, you could still qualify for FA, though I'd think FA would be at most 40-50% at a very generous $$$ schools. Many schools have no money to give. If your dc is outstanding and they want your dc/your family, they will make it happen. [ Reply | More ]

they look at both. they expect you to contribute a certain percentage of your assets to tuition. It is not likely you will qualify for aid. Invest the million and use the interest to pay tuition. Then you will still have the principal to fund retirement. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] About a month ago we took 4yo to Hershey Park. One of their food venues served us bagged baby carrots that had expired the week before and they could not offer replacements. DH and I decided to make a concerted effort to look at any item served to us at restaurants, catered office events etc. About 80% of items had expired. Even water! Caveat emptor dear readers. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OP: mini bags of baby carrots are dated. I guess they depend on nobody ever noticing... [ Reply | More ]

On Sunday (7/6) I was at a Pathmark and picked up a gallon of milk, and the first one I picked up said Sell by 6/29. There were at least 3 of those...the others said sell by 7/15. I don't know how many expired items I've found in drug stores. [ Reply | More ]

They gave these bags out with every meal. We did not ask for them. You'd think with such volume they couldn't possibly be such a huge market for food gone south [ Reply | More ]

for some reason this reminded me of my freshman year of college. i was walking past a food truck making a delivery to a cafeteria. a box said "eggs - low quality but edible." i think buying in quantity might encourage places to take lower quality foods. [ Reply | More ]

I picked up 3 packages of mini boxed milk on sale at my large local supermarket recently. When I got home I realized they'd expired 6 months earlier and they gave me a hard time when I tried to return them. The corporate headquarters never responded to the 3 emails I sent. I do not shop there anymore. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] DH who is the stepfather to my 14yo lied to me just to punish my 14yo dd I am really disturbed by this, they do not have a good relationship we have the typical blended family issues, but Im just not sure what to think of him lying to me just to punish my dd the way he thinks she should be punished. He said he believes their relationship drove him to lie to me, makes me wonder what else has he lied about and what will he lie about in the future. I cant help but to feel guilty because I didnt believe my dd at first I wonder what else she was telling the truth about. Any Advice?? 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

This is very disturbing. He is the adult and should know better. Maybe make sure you have both sides of the story next time. [ Reply | More ]

ugh, sorry. My stepfather was a real a**hole to me at times growing up, so I have some sympathy for your dd. Your dh should not lie to you period, IMHO that is really unacceptable behaviour. Would it be possible for dh and dd to get counseling? They need to work on their relationship, and this is a really difficult age for dd in any event. [ Reply | More ]
