How are the teachers at Anderson? No one ever mentions the teachers there. Any BTDT. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no. just seems everyone talks about the great admin and program, but not the teachers. we will be starting k in the fall, and I have no idea about the teachers. seems important. [ Reply | More ]

np: why is everyone jumping on this. We are also headed there in the fall, and while we loved everything we saw about the school, and ranked it first, I was too shy to ask about teachers. Don't see much posted here about it, and don't know anyone in the school. of course we wouldn't change schools, but it would be nice to hear something about this. [ Reply | More ]

Average public school teachers. Better teachers are not sent to better schools, making all of this hype over H and A null [ Reply | More ]

My dc has had one stellar teacher after another at Hunter. I think we got lucky - so far. [ Reply | More ]

We will also be starting in the fall at A. At the orientation, I asked an existing parent about the teachers. She said both K teachers are terrific, and whichever teacher you wind up with, you'll be happy with her. As for the upper grades, from other Anderson parents at the fundraiser, I got the impression that there are some great teachers and some not-so-great teachers, which sounds like many other schools (both public and private). k teachers are being switched around this coming year -- that said, my dc has had both of the "new" k teachers (dc is in an older grade) and LOVED them, as did we. we have not had a teacher there that we haven't loved -- and the specialist teachers have been wonderful too (the k-2 science teacher is particularly stellar). the ass't teachers are somewhat inconsistent, depending on who you get, but it's always a good think to have that extra set of adult hands in the classroom, so can't complain. one will, the other won't. this is hearsay, albeit from a reliable source -- it's not official or announced. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, the Asian science teacher (forget his name) is very loved by his students. He was tauted in the orientation. [ Reply | More ]

Like most public schools, the teachers range from great to terrible. One of the 4th grade teachers this year has left, but she was in the terrible range. It's really hard for any public school to deal with the not so good teachers when they have tenure. That being said, the current K-3 teachers are all wonderful, warm, friendly educators.
