About a month ago we took 4yo to Hershey Park. One of their food venues served us bagged baby carrots that had expired the week before and they could not offer replacements. DH and I decided to make a concerted effort to look at any item served to us at restaurants, catered office events etc. About 80% of items had expired. Even water! Caveat emptor dear readers. On Sunday (7/6) I was at a Pathmark and picked up a gallon of milk, and the first one I picked up said Sell by 6/29. There were at least 3 of those...the others said sell by 7/15. I don't know how many expired items I've found in drug stores. [ Reply | More

dh and i were just talking about this. we never check the ex. date on canned goods and he came home from the store a few days ago with canned food that said good until 7/08. unbelievable. you have to check everything now. [ Reply | More

for some reason this reminded me of my freshman year of college. i was walking past a food truck making a delivery to a cafeteria. a box said "eggs - low quality but edible." i think buying in quantity might encourage places to take lower quality foods. [ Reply | More

I picked up 3 packages of mini boxed milk on sale at my large local supermarket recently. When I got home I realized they'd expired 6 months earlier and they gave me a hard time when I tried to return them. The corporate headquarters never responded to the 3 emails I sent.
