If anything happens to me while I am gone (i.e. plain crash) does the father automatically get legal custody of the child? Or can I leave something written in which I chose whoever gets custody? TIA, really appreciated 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

There was a story on the news last night about a nanny who was 49 years old and she saved a three (?) year old that was in her charge. Her funeral was yesterday. They didn't explain, but said the child slipped out of his life vest, showed a picture of a pool - she must have jumped in to save and did, but then could not save herself. [ Reply | More ]

Such a sad story. You have to wonder about why parents with three dc, two with autism, and an inground pool would hire a nanny who doesn't swim and let her supervise the dc around the pool. What is the matter with these people? [ Reply | More ]

I just read the two articles that came up when I typed nanny drowning in the search box and neither of them went into any detail. The one worrisome thing I found, was mom was in the house with child on a couch while nanny was floating in the pool. What the heck was that about? [ Reply | More ]

Because the news coverage made it pretty clear that the mother knew that the nanny couldn't swim. It is tragic that the mother and neighbors couldn't pull the nanny from the pool. But it was just stupid that there was no one who could swim sitting by the pool with the 3 yo. And trusting a receational life jacket as a replacement for proper supervision was stupid. We have been married 2 years. DH gives every attractive woman under the age of 35 this intense "look" (I want to fuck you eye contact) right in front of me. It makes me jumpy and insecure and has been, at base, the cause of our problems. I feel like he is not totally committed. Most of the time, it doesn't bother me because I think that he just needs the ego boost of someone flirting back. But sometimes, it makes me crazy. I feel like he is shopping around for a replacement. I am 38, he is 48 and we have a 6 month old. I am about 30 lbs overweight but he started doing it before I got pregnant, too. [ Reply | More ]
