I am going on 3 week long business trip in Europe. I have a 10 month old child. I am not married but on ok terms with the father. I am the legal guardian of the child. If anything happens to me while I am gone (i.e. plain crash) does the father automatically get legal custody of the child? Or can I leave something written in which I chose whoever gets custody? TIA, really appreciated [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If you're a parent, you need to have a written will that is notarized. [ Reply | More ]

Is the father's name on the birth certificate? If so, I believe he has full legal rights as a parent unless a court has decided otherwise. You should speak with a lawyer or research the law in your state. [ Reply | More ]
