Is it fake? The poster seems odd, and has a link to a wedding site completely unrelated. [ Reply | More ]

There was a story on the news last night about a nanny who was 49 years old and she saved a three (?) year old that was in her charge. Her funeral was yesterday. They didn't explain, but said the child slipped out of his life vest, showed a picture of a pool - she must have jumped in to save and did, but then could not save herself. [ Reply | More ]

Such a sad story. You have to wonder about why parents with three dc, two with autism, and an inground pool would hire a nanny who doesn't swim and let her supervise the dc around the pool. What is the matter with these people? [ Reply | More ]

maybe they didn't know she couldn't swim. [ Reply | More ]

You make it your business to find out. You don't assume that the person supervising your dc at the pool know how to swim. And she had been with them for years and she lived with them. [ Reply | More ]

Oh, please. Get off your high horse. It was fantastically stupid to let the nanny who doesn't swim supervise dc at the pool. You don't have to be a perfect parent to know that, and you don't need hindsight to see the potential for this situation go bad. [ Reply | More ]

np. ITA. It's like expecting the nanny to drive dc around but never asking if she has a license. How could parents with w/ a POOL not ask the caretaker if she can SWIM? It's nuts. [ Reply | More ]

The criteria for being a perfect parent must be pretty low in your book. [ Reply | More ]

perhaps she lied. Why do so many of you want to jump in and blame someone for a tragic accident? [ Reply | More ]

Did you read the article? The mother knew that the nanny couldn't swim. And she was home when the accident happened, aware that the child was in the pool. [ Reply | More ]

I just read the two articles that came up when I typed nanny drowning in the search box and neither of them went into any detail. The one worrisome thing I found, was mom was in the house with child on a couch while nanny was floating in the pool. What the heck was that about? [ Reply | More ]

Because the news coverage made it pretty clear that the mother knew that the nanny couldn't swim. It is tragic that the mother and neighbors couldn't pull the nanny from the pool. But it was just stupid that there was no one who could swim sitting by the pool with the 3 yo. And trusting a receational life jacket as a replacement for proper supervision was stupid.
