[ - ] I feel like every other word out of my mouth is no, don't or stop. I hate telling my 3.5 year old no, don't put that on your sister's head, stop screaming, stop yelling, no don't bang your car on the side of the house, don't put the stool on top of the chair and then sit on the stool, don't put that on your sister's head, don't throw the book at her, stop ramming your cars into your sister's butt, stop ramming your cars into the wall. 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Finally, a parenting question I can answer! Yeah! Instead of saying no or stop, try explaining why. "When a toy car is banged on the house, it can cause damage to the house and toy." or "When a book is thrown at someone, it can hurt them and their feelings". (Not being sanctimommy, just read this in a book, and I don't always follow that advice myself) Good Luck! [ Reply | More ]

My kids (5 & 3yo) like Ling Ling's Potstickers. The sauce is included and the individual packets of 4 are ready in the microwave in 1 1/2 mins! Also, lately I tried Carnation Instant Breakfast (my 5 yo loves it) to sneak in a couple of calories in their diet. [ Reply | More ]

I have a bunch of fun metal cookie cutters. Every once in while, when my little one is being finicky I'll pound out chicken cutlets and grill them. Then take the cutters and cut out a bunch of shapes. (Dinosaurs/fish/etc) I'll make a scene on the plate with the food and the cut outs and use ketchup to do some additional drawing. (I know-- re-reading this it sounds crazy but it only adds a minute or two to serving time and that time I'd be letting the food cool off anyway.) Then the odd scraps of chicken I chunk up and add to my salad for dinner. No waste and we all have a fun dinner. [ Reply | More ]

Of course. Even if you end up with your own doc, you'll likely have to refresh his/her recollection. It's not like they have every patient's birth plan memorized. But he certainly had access to my entire medical file-- nevertheless, if there is anything in your history that you feel is important, I would point it out when you see the doc at the hospital- better safe than sorry is my theory in those situations. I wouldn't assume they've read the file in great detail. But I wouldn't think the meet the doc night would be the right place for those things! ;) [ Reply | More ]

well, if it's the same practice, I can tell you that they each go around and talk a little bit about themselves. then there is a question and answer period -- which, personally, I found sort of funny bc you get all these neurotic new yorkers in there grilling the docs about everything from episiotomies to food delivery options-- anywho, they take turns answering the questions so even if you can't think of anything to ask, you'll still get a good sense of each of them. plus, they'll tell you that they share the same philosophies on things like pain medication and episiotomies. also, p.s. when the real day arrives, I would advise you to talk to your L&D nurse in great detail about your concerns and desires- she will really be your champion through the process.
