My OB's office is having a meeting the doctor's night so that patients can meet the other drs in the practice in case they are on call when you deliver. What should I ask them? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

nothing unless you have a specific question- they will each talk a little bit- it's really just so you can get a sense of the other docs- and so you and DH can rank them from first choice to last in the cab on the way home. fwiw, we got the doc we ranked 4 out of 5 (meaning second to last) and he was great in the end. Thanks. Did you have to tell him what you want in terms of pain medication or concerns or was he familiar with your medical file? [ Reply | More ]

Of course. Even if you end up with your own doc, you'll likely have to refresh his/her recollection. It's not like they have every patient's birth plan memorized. But he certainly had access to my entire medical file-- nevertheless, if there is anything in your history that you feel is important, I would point it out when you see the doc at the hospital- better safe than sorry is my theory in those situations. I wouldn't assume they've read the file in great detail. But I wouldn't think the meet the doc night would be the right place for those things! ;) [ Reply | More ]

well, if it's the same practice, I can tell you that they each go around and talk a little bit about themselves. then there is a question and answer period -- which, personally, I found sort of funny bc you get all these neurotic new yorkers in there grilling the docs about everything from episiotomies to food delivery options-- anywho, they take turns answering the questions so even if you can't think of anything to ask, you'll still get a good sense of each of them. plus, they'll tell you that they share the same philosophies on things like pain medication and episiotomies. also, p.s. when the real day arrives, I would advise you to talk to your L&D nurse in great detail about your concerns and desires- she will really be your champion through the process. ita - I have no idea what the name of the Dr was that delivered my ds and I really didn't care who did it. I just told them the pain relief I wanted and then I got on with it. [ Reply | More ]

Oh god, I so so agree. I made myself nuts meeting all the docs (and there were a LOT). The big day of, some 25 year old resident delivered my ds. I couldn't tell you her name or what she looked like. I do, however have a wonderful memory of the anesthesiologist (Korean, about 5'3", glasses, a saint in white coat) [ Reply | More ]
