[ - ] 45k/ 75k mom here. DC's friend is here on a sleepover, and she is awake now because she just threw up. Shes 4, and says she feels ok... they didn't eat anything weird tonight, and she doesn't have a fever. Her parents are out tonight, at the theater, so I can call and leave a message on their cells, but would that be silly? Obv. if she gets very sick I will, but it one throw up enough to try to reach them? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

not that I know of! dinner was pasta with tomato sauce and an apple for dessert. not to sound bitchy, but could it be throwing up induced from being homesick or nervous or something? She didn't seem to unhappy before she went to bed, but she hasn't slept over here before... and after the first throwing up she is certainly nervous and unhappy now. [ Reply | More ]

OP here... just wanted to update... my husband ended up driving to their house late last night because they never called us... they picked up their daughter and brought her to the er... she had a bad reaction to some meds they had been giving her - I don't know what. Taking care of her when she was upset makes me realize how hard it must be to be a day care worker, or someone who takes care of kids they don't know super well. [ Reply | More ]

When I do remain in his bedroom, stroking his head, trying to lull him to sleep, he just won't go to sleep. The only way he eventually will, is after I leave the room, and the he starts screaming or trying to come downstairs. I absolutely hear what you all are saying, I know that this split has repercussions for my children. I just genuinely am seeking advice about what to do. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have not BTDT (the divorce situation) but my instinct is this--a lot has changed for this kid in some not great ways. All kids need consistency and routine and he needs it extra & above that. So my impulse would be to establish a very consistent, loving, iron-clad routine for bedtime every night (same time, same order of events, etc.) Spend some extra time reading in bed w/ him, snuggling, talking if he wants to. And then that's it. If he comes out of bed then say "it's bedtime and we stay in bed & sleep" and put him back. Any time after that just silently walk him back--make it so there is no upside to him getting up/stalling. But this is only my opinion and I know not everyone would agree. [ Reply | More ]

thank you, I appreciate that advice, it helps, and I will try it. AT the moment all we do is end up having an argument, my little boy saying to me "you get back in here", and me saying no, I'm going downstairs", it kind of gets endless. Thanks. [ Reply | More ]

I would get a small bed of some kind that you can put beside your bed and let him sleep there for the time being. His entire world as he has known it has ended. He's terrified. What's to keep you from disappearing too (just thinking like a kid here)? Don't bring him into your bed, but do get a bed of some kind and let him sleep nearby. GL to you both. [ Reply | More ]

So sorry to hear. Leave his room, take a deep breath, and go back in to comfort him. Sadly, you may have to come 2nd for a while as he is probably feeling that things are unstable and he can't communicate that to you. It will get better; he'll get used to the new routine. I'd agree if the angry Anderson mom posts had just started after the letters came out, but Anderson parents have been freaks on this board for the whole year I've been here....come to think of it, they were acting like lunatics back when I was applying my DS for preschool three years ago. I think this year they are very bent out of shape about the lottery thing. They believe their school is special because of the kind of kids it accepts, and that was removed this year when the DOE took over and put a lottery in place. I can understand their feelings and I think it's the minority of Anderson parents but I do think there are some freaky birds int hat bunch. [ Reply | More ]

Anderson is special. There is a line that the American Cancer Society endorses. I got products from a dermatologist. Now, I can't compare the US to NZ. But in the US, it can be very hard to get a medical appointment with a dermatologist. So many are only doing cosmetic work these days. So to have some things on hand may be a lifesaver to begin with. find out her chemo protocol/schedule... if her treatments are weeks apart, you may not be able to stay to see her through more than one treatment. better to email/call often to check on her, and send along a thoughtful gift. [ Reply | More ]

She is doing 4 cycles, 3 weeks apart each. I would definitely only be able to go for one cycle. Thinking of going for the 2nd one, as the timing works better for me. Also, her dh is around a lot, only works part-time, so she would definitely have someone with her at all times, but I was just thinking it might cheer her up to have an old friend around. That said, it would be a HUGE undertaking for me to make it happen. [ Reply | More ]

About $1000 for everything......I think the adults enjoyed it more that the kids though....probably better for a 10 yo than a 5 yo. [ Reply | More ]

most of us don't have a good enough reason to be depressed, life is too short. Look at all these old ladies who can barely walk and take all these meds. One day it will be us, looking back on our lives, and what would we say - that in the days when we were (relatively) young, healthy, and pretty, we were DEPRESSED? [ Reply | More ]

this is such an ignorant statement. depression in many cases is not a choice. it's biological. do people have a good enough reason to have migraines, or lupus, or ms or any other debilitating illness which comes and goes? [ Reply | More ]
