[ - ] I have been having the same sort of contractions for many months and my due date is tomorrow. Could it be that these aren't braxton hicks? Anyone's contractions stay relatively the same until the end? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Mine did. They just picked up in the last few days of pg--started to come very close together. I also had the occasional more painful contraction, seemed like a more intense BH, but not all that different. At the time, I didn't know it was a "real" contraction. [ Reply | More ]

I pretty much had worse contractions as BH than at the real time but I got the epi pretty fast. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] i have a long time friend (17 years) who is incredibly self absorbed. it is always a crisis and always about her. never asks about me or anyone else. if I try to steer conversation away from her, it goes back or her eyes glaze over. i am passively agressively avoiding her. do I confront or just sort of let it go? I'd like to keep friendship, but I am sick of talking about her. happy to support her in good times and bad but she just seems so selfish and self absorbed to me 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

how old are you? I wonder bc I notice with each decade I become less patient with these kinds of "friends." What do you get from this relationship? Maybe this is just a "fun" friend who entertains you but whom you cannot rely on for anything? That is legit as long as the friend does not take too much out of you. Don't put yourself out for this person though, since you seem to know you won't find that kind of effort in any way reciprocated. [ Reply | More ]

i have a friend like this but she lives out of town. i call her a couple of times a year and listen to how stressful and more important her life is than mine is. and we get off the phone and i realize that she knows nothing about me. i don't know what i would do if i had to see her regularly. as it is, i only return a call from her if i'm ready to listen. and i guess i don't consider her a real friend - even though we've been friends for 18yrs [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] HELP!!! I was approached by a mom whom I met twice who was kind enough to involve herself and tell me things our pt nanny is doing wrong with our toddler who is 17 months old. She takes our dc to an area in front of a bldg. nearby that has benches where lots of kids play. The nannies tend to sit on the benches. Well, my dc wants to climb the stairs to the front door of the bldg. and also run down the wheelchair ramp etc. I learned today that our nanny hollers at our dc from the bench which is a good 25-30 ft away to not climb the stairs. Our dc is very independent and very active and I encourage her to challenge herself if she wants to. She has mastered climbing up other steps at one of the city parks w/o holding onto a rail. I'm very upset because 1. I never holler at my child and 2. what is this from a distance? get off your butt and stoop down and say no and divert her attention elsewhere. how should i approach this and what should i say? overall she is wonderful with our dc, but this is contradicting how my husband and I are raising her. She is outside to play and if she wants to climb I feel that our nanny should walk a few blocks and take her to the other park which has more space for her to roam. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Talk to your Nanny and let her know exacly what was said (do not mention names) let her tell you her version, then ask her to be more engaging with your dd [ Reply | More ]

I'm not sure this is the best advice. Honestly, if the nanny doesn't care to be engaged, then she's probably not the nanny for you. You will have no way of knowing if she actually changes her style. If this is really important to op, then she will need to find a nanny that shares her values. [ Reply | More ]

you need a new nanny. How do you know that overall she is wonderful? do you have a nanny cam? You can't base your opinion on what she does in front of you, only what she does when you aren't around. [ Reply | More ]

Get a new nanny. I speak from experience. I always had suspicions that my nanny is sitting on her a$$ and not watching my dc closely, but I never had solid proof. After 2.5 yrs, I finally got definitive proof of her laxness, and I'm angry at myself for not firing her a lot sooner. My nanny lies very well and is good at promoting herself when I or my friends are around. I was fooled for a long time. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Therapist moms: today I was in a 3-way discussion w/ dd's (age 15) therapist. Therapist has her office in her home. Dd has seen her for about 2 years. Dd got upset, wanted to leave, therapist tried to calm her down, then she suggested that dd go lie down on her bed, which is in a separate room. I really think this is outside the boundaries of a patient/therapist relationship. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i am a therapist, and it would make me feel uncomfortable doing this. your dd is crossing into a personal space of therapist, which I don't agree with. but sometimes, even with codes of ethics, etc, therapists have different standards because of circumstances. Completely wrong? not sure but not necessarily OK. [ Reply | More ]

i wouldnt do this in an email though. talk to her. explain that you want therapist to be there for your dd but that you don't want to personalize the relationship. honestly, if the therapist can't tolerate your dd being upset in the room, which is the place for your dd to explore different emotions (esp painful ones), I'd be questioning whether to use this therapist further. i would talk to dd about how you are concerned that the therapist couldn't handle when your dd was upset and you want your dd to have a place to explore different emotions. you worry that your dd isn't getting support she needs. or, start looking for new therapist and ask this therapist to terminate properly with your dd. [ - ] dc starting 1st grade, private school. spoke with principal about my concerns regarding a specific teacher and asked that dc be placed in a different class. principal said she can't promise anything and he could be placed anywhere. she, understandably, doesn't allow parents to request teachers. if your dc was placed in a class with a teacher who has a terrible reputation for shouting and speaking nasty/hastily to the kids, would you strongly consider transfering dc out before starting school? not tt. more like 3rd tier. wwyd? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It's tough. You made your wishes known. If your dc gets placed in the class, first see if there is a problem. If there is a problem and its big enough - then ask to be transfered. Be calm, have your facts not your emotions with you. Don't leave the school. Every child gets a bad teacher once in their life. [ Reply | More ]

The way you need to phrase your requests is -- dc needs a calm, quiet atmosphere, otherwise he can get upset in class. Which teacher do you think would best suit his needs? That's the way to play the game. [ Reply | More ]

first off..You should learn NEVER to listen to hearsay. Many parents that I find that don't like a teacher (when others like the same teacher)feel this way because their kid is a PITA and has been getting in trouble. They also baby their kids and don't want to hear that their angels are doing anything wrong. From my experience, 1st graders will challenge a teacher. The teacher needs to be firm with them. If raising their voice as a last resort is needed so be it. Don't Poo-poo a teacher esp. to a principal without personal experience..just makes you look like a PITA [ Reply | More ]
