no one here is stupid. the issue being discussed is whether it makes a difference to start speed-dialing the entire class list anxiously trying to get a playdate before the first day of school. the answer is no. just as all of our dcs found friends in daycare and preschool, they will do the same in k. you only make dcs anxious by fretting over their ability to make friends at school before school even starts. Gotcha'... My son just finished K at NEST. I don't think you'd even get agreement on who the best teacher is. He had Amy. Who at the beginning of the year, most people would have probably said to avoid because she was new. As much as I loved some of the other teachers.. I could not be happier with the experience he had. She was great. She managed her classroom well, managed the parents well, I just thought she did a great job. Responses are so odd. We moved to the burbs when DD was about to start K, and I made a few playdates for her beforehand, so she'd at least know a few people the first day. One girl is still her best friend and it helped her feel comfortable going in since we were new in town. [ Reply | More

Most psychologists would tell you it was a good thing to do to help your child make the transition. Only on UB, would parents condemn it or say, Not necessary. You know you don't have to read to your kid either, and he'll probably turn out fine. Sensitive children do better with compassionate parenting. Less sensitive children by definition, less affected. I just think that the judges give him no criticism b/c Debbie Allen is such a dance goddess. He is now paired with Katee and they did this great dance but had a very noticable mistake. If that had been Will and Jessica the judges would have creamed J for holding Will back. But for W & K they said it was GOOD for them to have the mistake b/c otherwise the dance would have been something they could never do as well again. It's just a bit much. [ Reply | More

There's a lot of talk over on the boards at TVWOP about the Jessica debacle--that it was part physical but also part emotional and that Mia has been badmouthing her (on the show in judging, yes, but other times too). I was sad to see Mark & Chelsea get split up. I thought they had fantastic chemistry. I think Kherrington brought him down. She or Comfort should go. I'm not into Will at all, though I get that what he and Katee did was awesome. But he seems very smug to me and quite boring. I thought Joshua & Courtney did well. i was there last week with my 3 1/2 yr old. We stayed for about 4 hours. with a brief snack break. There was enough for him to do, we definitelty did "splash down" MANY times as it was perfect for us together. 6 yr old should be fine. But if its just you taking both of them it could be tough if 6 yr old is scared to go down in a tube alone. They won't let you go 3 in a tube. [ Reply | More
