[ - ] anyone have experience with sleepaway camp for older kids? we're looking at camps for next summer (registration starts this sept for some!) - really great ones are $5,000 for 3 1/2 weeks and the YMCA ones not on lakes work out to be about $2,000 for the same period (traditional single sex ones in Maine with cabins, YMCA ones in tents). Is it really worth the $ difference to do the traditional/lakeside/cabin ones?? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

You should go onto the Am Camping Assn web-site, you can select options and search for camps by cost, location, activities etc. You should VISIT this summer with your dc while camp is in session. This is essential with an older kid. You will see there are vast differences which are not apparent in the web-sites. (Kids aimlessly wandering around, filthy bathrooms, and you name it.) Signed mom of teens who have both been to several camps. [ Reply | More ]

Hmm, don't know if you're talking about birthing centers, I know that one at Roosevelt doesn't administer drugs, if they do you're kicked down to regular L&D. Oh yeah, I think the birthing centers usually want you out of there ASAP, like 12 hrs. [ Reply | More ]

You don't have to defend your choices but I'd avoid labels. I was thrilled to go home that quickly. Everything went well and we were more than ready to leave. I did have a doula at home for 3 hours a day for a couple days and that was nice. She cooked and helped me with bf, massages etc. [ Reply | More ]

I really don't care what people think about my choice in using an epidural or drugs..but I am curious if it is called something different, like I should't be referring to it as natural, I really am just trying to say it's not a c-section (at least it's not yet). I really don't care how they get this baby out, just get it out and give me pain meds! [ Reply | More ]

No, "natural birth" means no drugs. You are talking about vaginal vs c-section. I always wanted to leave as soon as possible - much more restful at home so after first left the 2nd day & the next two times the same day I gave birth. [ Reply | More ]

I had epidural all three times...with #1 I made the mistake of staying two nights. With #2, I gave birth at 11 pm and left at 10 am the next morning. With #3 I delivered at 6 am so I had to stay that whole entire day, and next night and left at noon the following day. You have to be really vocal about getting out and keep insisting. Otherwise they are too busy discharging the people who are supposed to leave to bother with you. [ Reply | More ]

I was so grateful to be able to stay in the hospital! 2 days is the norm, I believe (that's what I did at Roosevelt). I'd ask my OB. --p.s. I'd say vaginal or "regular" birth, rather than "natural", if it matters... [ Reply | More ]

I left after 24 hours. You can leave immediately - but the hospital strong armed me by saying that db could not leave for 24 hours - which can't be legal - as a mom, I'm sure I have a right to refuse medical services for my dc - but - 24 hours was ok enough. [ Reply | More ]

Stayed 3 days with first (c-section), 2 days with second (natural-no drugs), even though doc said I could leave pretty much immediately if I wanted. My advice is stay in the hospital for at least two nights--it's great to have people to take care of you and db for a couple of days so you can really rest. Once you get home, it's all you--and it's tough. If you can bear the thought of sending db to the nursery for the night, DO IT! It's the last time for a while you'll get a full night's sleep. I always found that it was better to give more money on a weekly basis then to pay extra for nannies lunch and commute - I would make this clear up front. Quite frankly, I would feel like she was pocketing the lunch money and that would annoy me. I always told her to make a list of food she wanted in the house for lunch and/or breakfast. This was 2 years ago, I have since stopped working. [ Reply | More ]

nj transit isn't that bad, it just gets crowded on the weekends - just get to the train station early so you can get your tickets at the machine and then go to the lower level using the stairs under the big board announcing the gates. there are small screens showing the gates down there too and you will avoid the mad rush on the upper level. gl.
