op- but zero contact with my family seems so pathetic. i feel immature for allowing this. like i should rise above my mom (and sister -who grew up to be just like my mom). feel i should learn how to handle them - at a distance but some contact. but they make me sick half the time. they insulted DB at his 1 yr old BDay party last time i saw them 3 months ago. op- my mom always told my sister that my sister had to try harder to be as good as i was. took my sister for major facial plastic surgery at 13 b/c i was considered prettier... so my sister has a very big jealous ax to grind with me that she won't bury. and both mom and sis have zero social contacts in their lives. don't know what to do with them. op- they won't even see DB ever - saying they're too busy when neither works. sister doesn't have kids or a job. it's only a 45 min drive. so that hurts me. if i go to them, they often stand me up. [ Reply | More ]

Sounds like it's normal then. Kids like to eat! I'd suggest trying regular meals and 2x snacks a day and that should get dc into a normal eating pattern. If you snack all day and give snacks all day dc will eat them. [ Reply | More ]

We put ds in toddler bed (which is just a small bed with same mattress size as crib) but at 2.7yo he already looks big in it. Good idea I heard is to get a twin bed matress and use that on the floor until dc is big enough to manage climbing in/out of a twin bed. [ Reply | More ]

(1) nothing to do, (2) ride the ferry or take the Splashboat, go to the Aquarium and Coney Island, go to the Bronx Zoo, hang out in Central Park, go to Mars 2112 (if you have boys), go to the top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) or Empire State Bldg, go to Chinatown and Little Italy, let the kids play in the sprinklers in a playground (the one around CPW and 67th is nice). There's a great playground on Jane Street and the West Side Highway with lots of sprinklers. It's oval shaped, and the grown-ups can sit on the perimeter. Totally safe, and it almost feels like a day at the beach because it's right on the water. Bring some water balloons. My kids are the same age; the older one still likes it, but sometimes she'll bring a book along if she wants to just rest for a while. It's right by the West Village, so you can walk over to Cowgirl Hall of Fame for lunch or dinner. The playground has a bathroom right near it, and a vendor selling drinks, ices, food. Just bring towels and bathing suits, and you're all set. [ Reply | More ]

kids love the ferry - get on, take pictures, buy a snack and watch the view...agree with above - you could go to a ball game on the other end or go to children's museum but i don' think kids of that age would enjoy it so i would just come right back. [ Reply | More ]
