np. I actually read both equally. I first found urbanbaby and someone on UB rec'ed DCUM. Which I prefer depends on mood and day. Sometimes I prefer DCUM because they seem more sane, and I can't take it on a day when people here are "I feel so poor, HHI 700K", but you can't see threads as easily there and get a witty back and forth going. I got banned for the first time (since 2009!) last month! I mused out loud if the strong attendance at protests was in part being bolstered by a lot of young people being restless in quarantine and ready to get out. Meanwhile, I was also actively attending protests myself, so definitely din't intend it to be negative or snarky - I was just curious if the timing was beneficial to the cause. Well someone went NUTS on me, accused me of being anti-movement, said they were offended that I would even suggest that people weren't genuine (which I wasn't suggesting), etc. And for some reason, just like that, I was banned! It seems like in the old days, there was virtually NO moderation (remember when teen boys would just post pages and pages of the same post over and over again?) [ - ] Non-covid topic. We left a TT school two years ago for the suburbs of CT. I promise you the teachers at DCs new school are far superior and engaged. The difference is the parents at the NYC TT went to extreme lengths to ensure their kids kept up with the rigorous curriculum. In other words, teachers had high expectations and the families used outside resources to meet these expectations. This was not only about hiring tutors. For example, know several kids who took Latin before the program even started. Know families who would travel to countries that woudl be relevant to the following year's curriculum. They do this at our school too (Hunter). I honestly think it's just NYC as a whole, if you can afford it, they do it. I had a mom from a lower grade once quiz me on what our grade worked on and books the kids read so she could have her kid work on it over summer. It's not just an NYC TT thing. I'm in a flyover suburb with excellent schools and parents (middle and HS) do that here do, especially with math and languages. Kids get tutored for the math they will take in the upcoming year, or do summer school in other districts for the course they will take in the fall. It's very common to do a whole class for no credit somewhere else before taking it for credit again. It happens anywhere where parents are overly concerned about their children's academic success.
