I think it's OK as long as they're with me. I also tell dc to not go anywhere with anyone without telling the grownup they're with. that's completely unrealistic. a person in NYC talks to strangers a number of times on any given day. you need to teach dc to trust their instincts, and be specific about what is a normal interaction with an adult and what is not. and have the conversation repeatedly until you're sure they get it, which won't be for a while [ Reply | More

i just finished potty training. thought I could skip the chair, but in the beginning for my dd, it was difficult for her to sit well enough (safely) on the insert that goes on the toilet seat. she would squirm and it would come undone, practically making her fall off the toilet and scaring her. So i switched back to the chair and she loved it, much more comfortable. didn't love cleaning it. but i don't feel it's any worse then cleaning a dirty diaper. I kept trying to reintroduce the seat and eventually she was much better and now only goes on the big toilet. she is 2 btw. [ Reply | More
