It is a program for children on the Autism spectrum. I think mostly Aspie kids but I know a PDD child that is at one of the Manhattan schools. It is a micro inclusion program 4 ASD kids and 8 typical kids. I would contact CSE for more information. I have contact infor for every region if you tell me what one you live in. [ Reply | More ]

an anderson mom said that some parents there were lobbying to get sib preference at ps9 for their sib dcs who did not make 97 cutoff. also heard there are some trying to get in for non G&T. apparently they are claiming sib preference for the building rather than program. apparently there was some question about whether sib preference wuld be granted by building. But two years ago when I was going through it, I and a bunch of other mothers here decided stick with our zoned school instead. You're right, the current process GUARANTEES a G&T spot, just not neccissarily in the particular G&T the parent wants. It will be interesting to see if all these "my child really needs a gifted program" folks will take the G&T that's offered if it's not the one they really want. [ Reply | More ]

FWIW, we are finishing 5th grade at a very well-regarded G&T in Manhattan. Looking back, can't say that G&T has been all that great, and our friends in a good gen ed may have had a better experience some years than we did. Dc is very bright, self-motivated, and organized, but not profoundly gifted, and in hindsight, would have probably done just as well in our zoned gen ed. Main difference in peer group is you do not have the kids who need a lot of help, but there are plenty of very bright (and dare I say it, even brighter kids) in a good gen ed, IMHO. [ Reply | More ]

Zipp is both loving and stern. But frankly, there are fewer and fewer variance kids and more and more involved parents in each grade. If people don't panic, I don't think there will be as many discipline problems in the future. scary to think about the answer. this past year it was about $5k for dc #1's school, 3500 for dc#2's. when i went back to work, i paid about $900/month for dc#3. plus random babysitters and then summertime will be another $1k-$2k. [ Reply | More ]
