that is a hard thing to change but it helps me if I remind myself that I'm not in control. Worrying doesn't help anything. I tell myself that if something bad did happen, I would be really mad at myself for spending the last good days being miserable. If you are religious it can help to remember that you are not in control and God is. [ Reply | More ]

I actually saw a therapist about this once and she told me something that really helped. She told me about some study where they asked people what they were most worried about happening in 6 months then they following up; over 90% of the time, the thing did NOT happen. They couldn't believe it, so they did it again but asked for worries over the next year; same result. So, keep in mind that the thing you are worried about most likely won't happen! [ Reply | More ]

I think I would lose my mind at home all day with the kids. I love them but do not find them stimulating. I did not put myself through college and grad school so I could change diapers and read Dr. Seuss in an endless loops. 4 hrs a day and weekends with the kids is enough. [ Reply | More ]

Sorry this posted as a new topic.... Funny but I found this a welcome change from my professional life. I enjoy the teaching and discovery aspect of being with my kids. It has also refreshed me and when I finally went back to my career I was able to handle it so much more easily. I guess it just depends on the individual. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Really concerned bc my 7mo has flattening on left side of her head. She sits up, has good head/neck control, and there is no asymmetry (sp?) of her face. The ped. keeps saying it looks fine, but a few friends have commented. I put a call into a ped. orthopedist. Is that the right specialist to call? Anyone BTDT? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] My 3yo is having a lot of nightmares, scared of the dark, etc. and he's getting no sleep at night. He's got huge circles under his eyes but he won't take a nap during the day without me there hugging him. What could be causing all these nightmares? His latest nightmare involved my husband fallign asleep in his car and turnign colors, and now my 3yo won't go near DH in real life. I was sitting with him today relaxing and my eyes started to close (I was nodding off) and he flippped out and said "OH NO Mommy, now you too!" and started crying. Does anybody know what all of this means? I am so concerned about his emotional/mental health. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I am always with him, and I am pretty sure he hasn't seen something like that on TV. Nothing traumatic has happened, but he does have a new younger sibling and is toilet training. Other than that, everything else is the usual. He's always been difficult about sleeping and scared of the dark, but the nightmares are something new. [ Reply | More ]

hhmmm....I think you should call his ped and see what they think. It may be totally normal to have this kind of reaction to a new baby but it sounds a little extreme to me. They should be able to either put your mind at ease or guide you in the right direction to get help. GL [ Reply | More ]

To be honest I was like this is a kid - very clingy, easily frightened. Years later as an adult I finally see I had an anxiety and depressive disorder and meds have helped. I went through years of childhood therapy and it was really the meds that worked - perhaps there is some low-dose for kids? I would get a psychiatric evaluation. Seriously, nip it in the bud. I do think you should get him checked out. I don't know much about meds for kids, but maybe some sort of therapy or relaxation or even just him being able to talk about it (as much as he can at 3!) would help. [ Reply | More ]

Hi, I am terribly sorry for your loss. I had two, they were unrelated. The first, no cause found. The second, I had a d&c and did tissue testing on the fetus and found out it was a trisomy problem (3 chromosomes where there should only be two and if you have that, you are not going to turn into a human - with the exception of two specific, but that's another story. They say it is "incapatable with life". I went on to have a healthy baby. Your pregnancy innocence is now lost, but that doesn't mean that you won't have a baby. It will just be a very long, crazy road. Did you do any testing? [ Reply | More ]

It's not that bad! There's something about their taking total control of your reproductive cycle that's a little creepy, but in our case, it was also a big relief to have someone else in control for a while. We got pregnant (with twins) on the second try: it was terrible not to conceive the first time, but it also gave our practice a chance to fine-tune the drugs to create a better stimulation. The shots aren't that bad. Stay positive -- it just may work! [ Reply | More ]
