[ - ] Anyone know anything about Princeton, NJ? We are starting to look at homes but are there different parts of town to be in? Also, is there a JCC for preschool? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

There are different parts of Princeton - Borough and Township are different, and you can live in places like West Windsor and have a Princeton address, which is super confusing. There isn't a physical JCC in the area, but there was a sign in West Windsor about a year ago that said "Future Home of the JCC". (we moved from there around then). [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Did anyone else hear about the 10 yo boy from SC who "dry drowned" over 2 hours after he went swimming? He got water in his lungs but was fine enough to walk home from the pool with his family. He felt very tired, went to go lay down and his mom found him dead a few hours later. The autopsy showed that he "dry drowned" - 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Yup. 1st time swimming, too. Is that the same kid? The signs of water in the lungs are as follows: extreme tiredness, immediate change in behavior (I believe the child you mentioned soiled himself in the pool?) and difficulty breathing. If anyone EVER shows signs of this while swimming, go to an emergency room ASAP. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Worried my DS age 4 may have gross motor delay or that cluminess disorder. How do I get him evaluated? He doesn't ride a trike and still does stairs one foot at a time. Legs covered with bruises from playing all day at school on playground. He falls down/trips everywhere over nothing... Thought it was shoes, but suddenly worried. tia 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

You should be able to get a free eval through your local school district. If you are in NY, that's called CPSE, Committee on Preschool Special Education. Ask for a PT and OT eval, and while you're at it if you have any other concerns, ask for speech/psychological too (easier to do it all at once and while ds is still young). You can also set up an appointment with a developmental pediatrician. Where are you located? [ Reply | More ]

That's D2, right? Call the D2 CPSE office. Most of the people who work there are really nice. Request an eval packet and then you'll set up an appointment. It's all free. Are you seeing any other delays or signs that concern you? [ Reply | More ]

YES! Our DH's are best friends but we are not as close. It kills me to see how harsh they are to #1. All I can do is be complimentary toward him and point out what I think is great about him (often what they deride him for). [ Reply | More ]

Had a dramatic falling out with my best friend of 24 years over this about 5 months ago. After witnessing his wife whack their 3 year old in the face, I called him and reported what i'd seen, plus everything else I felt was mean and negative about their parenting. It didn't go well. how far (time wise) would the commute be? do either of you work in Manhattan? Any families at NEST use yellow school buses? Do both of you work and do you have younger/older kids? [ Reply | More ]

OP: DH works in Manhattan (times square); I SAH. Older DD in 3rd grade, younger in preschool. This would mean 3 kids, 3 schools. [ Reply | More ]
