I know it can be inconvenient - but you don't want to serve? I'm an atty and have never served (sit in room, read a book and advised trial has been postponed or settled). I would liek to see a jury trial from the other side of the courtroom. a trial can last anywhere from a day to weeks or even months, by the way. but the vast majority of cases settle on the eve of trial. np: I always felt this way until I got chosen as an alternate for a jury. It was some civil case and it was BORING. And of course after making us sit through 4 days of trial (well, we didn't sit through it all, we would hear bits and pieces, then be excused for parts they didn't want us to hear, then back in, back out. The balif/guard was mean and nasty to us, ordering us around like we were prisoners/criminals. I will never do that again. From that point on, I lie and say I have some problem with the case because I've been in a similar situation and act like I've formed an opinion/cant be impartial. Haven't been picked since. My DH's life is busier than ever, and I keep having to give stuff up because it's spontaneous and he's scheduled to the gills and I didn't give him a week to juggle so he could take DD... depressed and feeling like my old life is TOTALLY gone, while DH's is flourishing. Not fair, but sob sob, that's the way it is. poor me. get over it. who cares. How do I get past resenting him? talk to him, calmly, about how you feel, how much time away from home his extra commitments really take. work out a schedule where you get time away from home on a regular basis, either by hiring a babysitter or having DH give up some of his extra-curriculars. something has to give and it can't all come from you. also, find a "date-night" babysitter - the thing that helped DH and I most of all was getting time together away from DB, even if it was just to get some pizza and ice cream and go for a walk together. dc starting K at UNIS in the Fall. Assuming you're considering whether to send your dc for high school, since you mention York Prep. UNIS is definitely stronger academically than York Prep. how can you brag about what is essentially a random process? random how your kid will do during any 45 minute period in their lives, random how the scores overall ended up, random how many people applied to any particular school with any particular score, random how schools within each score were assigned. friend is an administrator at a private school in nassau cty. she gets a lot of kids from pw where parents aren't happy with elem schools. also, heard there have been at times issues with gangs at the h.s.
