If for some reason the kid didn't wean, you would want to at least some months before due date. The nutritional needs of a toddler are very different from an infant, and if the toddler is still on the breast, it may create undue hostility between her and new baby. [ Reply | More ]

neurologist will see whether you need a surgery. not a big deal, microsurgery. or he'll put you on hydrocortizone for starters. in that case make sure he prescribes a good brand name, not a cheap generic substitute which has terrible side effects. the neurologists are forced by insurance companies to prescribe the crap. if your neurologist prescribes the cheap thing - switch, he is probably not so good himself or in bad terms with insurance co, which are all bad signs [ Reply | More ]

Yes you are right, plus the DOE not only did a sibling preference but also a BUILDING preference! Meaning if a kid made city wide cut off and had an older sib at PS 9, this kid was given sibling preference and vice versa for PS 9 G&T, so the 99 families that were non-sibs and listed A and PS 9 in their top 3 choices were SOL or VERY VERY lucky. I think it makes sense. If doe is committed to sib preference in order to keep kids in the same school, then keeping them in the same building is the same idea. not all anderson sibs will make 97 cutoff, so they can at least be with their sibs in the same building. doe is serious about sib policy. good for them. too bad they didn't announce it though since many ps9 kids did not list naderson first for fear of losing sib preference at ps9 [ Reply | More ]

You are, I hope aware that the distinction between Anderson, Tag, Nest and Hunter is that they hace accelerated core curriculums. District g&t programs do not. I believe families are frustrated by a lack of seats in an environment with an accelerated core. District offers a gen ed curriculum "with some enrichment possibility". Depending on the distric,t a g&t class in one could easily be underperforming in comparison to the 'worst' gen ed in another district. [ Reply | More ]

Yes I am aware of that. Had we not landed at a citywide, we would have been perfectly comfortable with an enriched, but not accelerated, curriculum. Hearing that, I'm relieved for those children. There has been much ado over the lack of Citywide seats. Take a step back from my comments as any perceived form of attack. I applaud the hard work and efforts of the eds and families at 153, yet to fly that small program -in a gigantic district is to lose sight of a larger picture. Children 'distinguished' themselves as eligible for a citywide(read: accelerated)program, according to (really lame)criteria set forth by the DoE. Having said that, I have not measured my child's intelligence, abilities or learning style based on any of the tests; We've shared many enriching experiences and have a really interesting time. I do think it's critical to maintain focus on advocating for all the children in the Doe system-whether my child will participate or not. The g&t offerings in d6 -and plenty of others-are slim, if they exist and I've watched kids and their parents opt out of supporting their local D6 schools for 40 yrs now. [ Reply | More ]

issue-the opinion that children testing at or above a certain established level of intellectual ability would benefit greatly from an 'accelerated'curriculum. This isn't what the Districts are providing. I am a hugely pro-inclusion, so the whole idea is pretty flawed to me-esp since the OLSAT is such a poor gauge. Parents are attempting to get Citywides for the same reasons that others are trying for in Districts- but their programs are not the same, nor are they meant to be. [ Reply | More ]

yes, 447 99's! 978 kids made city wide cut off (97% or higher) and 447 scored 99. That's almost half the kids that qualified for city wide. [ Reply | More ]

Building pref. poster from above here, also with 447 kids scoring in the 99% and between Anderson, Nest and TAG there are only 243 seats available (including over acceptance). It is clear that the DOE needs to have more accelerated citywide programs! [ Reply | More ]

Maybe knowing there were over 400 99s will stop the 99 "3rd choice" moms from being so depressed that their deserving babies were unfairly cheated out of spots--obviously a lot of equally deserving kids went without. With those numbers I would also think that even those who advocated using the scaled or raw scores might have been disappointed--I can see perfect or near perfect scores needed for Anderson. HelloOO...That test is crap! Administered by whom? Assessing what? I have posted elsewhere on this site that we're all letting the DoE off the hook for their failing ALL of our children with all this infighting and competitive posturing. We need better schools overall-not some perfect test to label our learners and segregate them further. [ Reply | More ]

and I will not get my child naked and parade her birthmarks. This baiting of one another is simply awful. When my child or self gets in a snit or makes a big stink out of a little smell, there are 3 questions we've formulated to ask ourselves: "Is this making me feel better? Is this helping? Can I stop now?". Feel free to try them out. My back hurts, so I'm unstooping now. [ Reply | More ]

If you bought a ticket for the 16 m/o, do yourself a favor and bring the car seat - it's more comfortable for DC than the plane seat. A 2 y/o must have a ticket, and often their legs are long enough to kick the seat in front of them from the carseat, so the carseat is more trouble than it's worth. [ Reply | More ]
