[ - ] Friend - more an acquaintance to me, great friend of friend - gave birth to child this weekend with Down's. She knew there was a very high chance the baby had Down's but being religious she would never have aborted... I am so sad for her and cannot imagine it... but I'm also angry, but weirdly sort of "on her behalf" that she has benn so programmed to believe that this trial is a "gift" form God... Bullshit... 24 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I know they can... I just feel like this woman who's barely making it right now has something so huge to deal with - mentally and possibly financially and physically - and it's so not "right"... The very clever post who says I'm being judgemental is simple minded. I feel for this woman and cannot fathom the weight on her shoulders right now... [ Reply | More ]

I know this sounds crazy, but it seems like people have a very lovely life as parents of kids with Downs. I'm not saying they'd prefer it or it's easy. But they're loving as a rule, frequently very functional (especially with good schooling) and bring a lot of joy into a family. [ Reply | More ]

OR I'm sure there will be challenges but life is challenging. It is also precious. I learned that from watching my Dad die a slow painful death from Parkinsons. I chose ps 11 GNT NOT because it gives strong test scores but because it has good school system (small class size, good facilities, etc) and excellent afterschool program. I believe my dc can do well in any peer group so test scores in any school does not matter to me much. Low scores this year would be partially due to relatively low # of GNT students in ps 11 (there is only one GNT class in upper grades) who has taken exam. I bet the scores will be significantly upgraded when current 1st N 2nd grders go to upprt grades coming years. [ Reply | More ]
