[ - ] I'm 18 weeks pregnant. First 15 weeks or so, I gained a small amount of weight. Suddenly, the last few weeks, whooooooosh--nothing fits. And it's not my belly (that would be fine). It's fat everywhere. AND, I haven't changed my eating a all. I'm getting scared.... 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

sorry but I'm with him. I have 2 kids ages 8yr and 4yr. Never restricted TV and don't believe the hype of the no tv before 2 crap. Everyone I know (I'm 40) was raised with TV and we all turned out ok. My kids are fine, great students, not home bodies, ect. I think as long as you engage your child, take them out of the house and don't plant them in front of the TV with junk food...I think your dc will be fine [ Reply | More ]

No. What I mean is summer birthday kids have a tougher time getting acceptance even if they make the cutoff. There is always one or two exceptions in every school with an exceptional August child (or super connected), but TTs are not as generous with younger kids. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know, but if you don't get an answer a good predictor is if the schools get the jewish holidays too... Where I grew up was about 20% jewish and we did... I suppose though that depends on your definition of predominately. [ Reply | More ]

schools closing for the Jewish holidays has more to do with the makeup of the faculty than anything else. If too many teachers will be out, then there is no point in opening the schools, regardless of the population of the student body. [ Reply | More ]

I recommend you cast a wide net when you apply and mull your acceptances after the fact. Oftentimes you don't have a choice and are only accepted at one school and weightlisted at others. My personal experience is that first choice letters don't work. We were told we were "in" our first choice only to be booted 2 days before the official notice and we had to scramble to get into another school. Apply to both and be grateful if you get into one. (or has your child been accepted at both?) ... my dc go to Dalton [ Reply | More ]

I worked at St.Ann's and know people who worked at Dalton. If your child is creative and would do well with exhibition/performance/non-pencil & paper, go for St.Ann's. Some of the standard academic skills go by the wayside at St.Ann's. Dalton is more academically rigorous, but still very progressive. [ Reply | More ]

there are some great private schools on uws. i'm actually sensitive to the parents who get dealt a bad hand in the school selection process. it really isn't a fair process at all. high test scores are just the entree into the process.. so much else comes into play when these schools construct their K classes. my dh and i are normal hardworking people who just happened to be lucky enough to have a kind and considerate child who happens to be bright and curious. yes and no. as i misposted before, it's a lottery among wealthy tribeca dcs who are afforded lots of enrichment. (only 2 dcs per class are from outside the neighborhood, and they are also from d2, which has some of the highest scorers in the city.) so, good for a small school but totally expected for the neighborhood. the lottery really has nothing to do with it.
