With our dd, we planned exactly when we wanted and we tried, with our second dd we just went back and forth between using protection and not so it would be more of a surprise, now we are thinking it is time for #3 and we can't decide which is a better method. 1 Reply [ Reply | Watch | More ]

^^Oh, age - for public schools, dc starts kindergarten the year dc turns 5 years old. Dcs with December birthdays start school when they're 4 yr 9 months. As for private schools, it's more vague. A dc definitely has to turn 5 by August/September, but even some April or May dcs have been told they're too young. [ Reply | More ]

set a routine. At the end do something he likes - read a book, snuggle whatever. If he doesn't follow the routine, tell him you are going to take away the fun last part. You will have to do it consistently but he will get the message. Oh, and he will test you on it every once in awhile. [ Reply | More ]

BTDT, don't send him back. If you stay at home its ok. Look into the program at Chelsea Piers. Its called Champs and he will probably love it. You can do that two or three days a week (or up to five). He doesn't have to do preschool and its not worth the stress on a three year old. You might want to read Preschoolers at Risk and The Hurried Child if you are into reading parenting/child books. [ Reply | More ]

Also, BTDT, and we switched schools. It's not totally and completely impossible and the above poster had a good suggestion about looking into preschool alternatives. Much better to have your dc's first school experience be a positive one, and even the places like Chelsea Piers or Kidville will do a good job of socializing your dc, which is the main point of preschoo. We were also in a Montessori program, by the way. Great for some dc's but just not a good fit for others. [ Reply | More ]

rockaway is just as nice as long beach, if you walk a few blocks up from the subway (subway goes to 116th, walk up a few blocks toward the 120s. Plus it's free. LB is $10. However, the LIRR is of course nicer than the a train. [ Reply | More ]

i haven't done the trip in awhile. does the a train run express on the weekends? If so, I'd say 45 minutes. I believe you have to transfer to the S in Broad Channel. Not the best ride, but Rockaway is a nice beach and pretty empty once you get a few blocks up from the masses of the subway stop. [ Reply | More ]
