My kids never could get a decent nap in the stroller so yes I always required afternoon nap to be in the crib. My nanny never questioned it thankfully. She did not mind getting a break to read or watch TV at home. [ Reply | More ]

i generally prefer him to nap in the crib, but I am not so strict about it. I'm fine with him napping in the car or stroller a day or two a week if that's how the schedule shakes out. [ Reply | More ]

I also insist on crib naps. My son will sleep 45 minutes in the stroller and 2 hours in the crib. I would seriously re-evaluate your nanny situation. Your nanny wants a stroller nap so your child's schedule doesn't interfere with her social life. [ Reply | More ]

how could you even determine that? [ Reply | More ]

determine what? How my son sleeps? There have been occassions when a stroller or car nap was necessary due to family committments and every time he naps exactly 45 minutes. Or are you asking how to determine nanny's motives? To me it's a bit of common sense. Why would a nanny want a child to nap in the stroller? Can't be b/c she is putting the child's schedule and interests first. [ Reply | More ]

When the baby I care for was younger, he would fall asleep with me next to him in the bed or he would sleep in his stroller (the mother had no problem with this). His mother never had him sleep in the crib at night, so it was impossible to get him to sleep in there. Now that he is older (ten months), his mother wants him to sleep in the crib. While the crib has been challenging, it is getting better. The point is, whatever you are comfortable with is what your nanny should be doing and you shouldn't have to hear what other parents do or don't do. I never would have gone against anything my employer told me to do with regards to her son's sleeping arrangements. [ Reply | More ]

i definitely insist on letting my kids nap at home, in a crib or bed (depending on their age). it was a difficult year or two when my youngest had to nap and i had to keep my oldest at home most of the time in order to maintain naptime with my youngest. but thats what had to be done. Irvington is the most snotty of your list, maybe because it is so small. Sleepy Hollow used to be called North Tarrytown and was a pit. I love tarrytown and Pleasantville. Tarrytown has a good greek restaurant and the river is nice, pleasantville has a nice little main street [ Reply | More ]

I'm not sure as we haven't ventured up that far. I think tarrytown/sleepy hollow are the more overlapping as they share a school district. Go to houlihanlawrence.com and click on town info as you'll learn a lot from their descriptions. [ Reply | More ]

np: that's a great idea - we have same problem, starting in kind, where we were told that the teacher did not have time to fix laces so don't send kids in with laces until they can reliably tie them. good luck with that if they are wearing velcro most of the time! [ Reply | More ]

no, she would only wear velcro. I didn't push because it became such an emotional issue. Turned out, she had working memory problems. fwiw she can now tie her shoes and does very well in school. it's just developmental, I guess. [ Reply | More ]

why? i'm 35 and i have to hold a pillow to sleep well. i can see weaning a child from carrying something around constantly. but if it's only in the bed, there is no reason to wean from it. my eight year old sleeps with a stuffed animal every night. [ Reply | More ]

If it is just carried inside your home I'd leave it. Try to limit it's use to the home. I had a cushion that I had to have to get to sleep and it ended up going to uni with me! I'm pretty normal. [ Reply | More ]
