[ - ] Does anyone know when you can apply to Center school on the UWS? I know it is in 4th grade, but I can't find any information regarding the application process on their website. Also, does anyone know what kind of kid is admitted to Center? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I would tell her this is a life transition, and she will have a lot of them. you can often feel lonely during life transitions because they can be hard. I would say now is a good time to work on skills to cope with these transitions. I would encourage her to think of one thing she can do each day -- a goal. indicate that other kids are struggling too. suggests thing - like asking someone if they want to go to the library or starbucks for a few minutes after school, say hi to someone who also looks lonely, talk to a teacher about an assignment. good luck. Good suggestions. Encourage her to join clubs for activities she is likely to enjoy to meet like-minded people. On the academic front, sit down with her and review every subject: go together through the documents given the first day by teachers on expectations for the course and syllabus. See how she handles everything from an organizational standpoint. If she feels behind in any class, identify the areas lacking and make a plan on how to catch up. In other words, divide things into chunks, build on strengths and successes, address weaknesses. Having a plan of action is likely to make her feel more in control. [ Reply | More ]

As much as this board can be crazy, it is enlightening. While I hope your DD finds her crowd soon, it is incredible to see how different kids have such different experiences growing up. Crying every day because you don't have friends for a week in a new school when other kids have to endure really bad bullying or complete shunning for months or years on end? Add poverty and a weak support system on top of this. Some kiddos are really at a huge disadvantage. [ Reply | More ]

It's a good investment. Just take care to insulate if you're not getting the efficient windows. I've never lived in a doorman building, but recently moved into one a month ago. There are 4 main guys, and then 1 that is there mostly in the early morning for a few hours. There is also a live in super. Is $50 each too little? $100? Should the super get more? They're all helpful and nice if that makes a difference. 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

If anything, since you're only there for like 4 months, you could get away with tipping on the low side this time. All of our friends are going away to the Caribbean over Christmas and all the kids are friends but it sounds dreadful to me though I know my kids would have a great time. NP Will your toddler sleep in a stroller? We wised up and started taking our big stroller that reclines with us on trips where we knew we'd be out and about so DS could nap in it. Last trip we took was to PR and it worked out perfectly. Took stroller to the beach. Let him play for a little bit and then down for a nap. Then DH and I got 2-3 hours to ourselves to relax. And its actually easier to take through the airport than a travel one because you don't have to collapse it and put it up on the belt. They let you roll it through the metal detector and they just swab it down. [ Reply | More ]

Ds sleeps much more soundly in his uppababy than in the babyzen Yoyo, but we were in Florence and Rome, and the babyzen was cumbersome enough. I can’t imagine trying to get that behemoth (which I do love) onto a tiny European elevator or lugging it up the stairs. Also it wouldve been much easier if he was just napping once a day, but it was still twice a day at that time. [ Reply | More ]

For France, it looks to me like I can do a few 90-day tourist visas plus private schools, which would be under the radar for $, but are there real problems like: people not taking our school registration or not being renting to us beyond air bnb? No idea whether we'd get a long stay visa or want one, since once they know you are there, taxes are like 50%. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Be careful- the biggest tax burden there is the wealth tax, not income taxes. You won’t have a problem With school registration if you are looking at international schools like ASP. You can probably pay someone up front to rent an apartment. It is illegal to reside in a country and enter on a tourist visA. But I don’t think it’s that hard to get a resident visa if you don’t need a work visa and you are rich. [ Reply | More ]
