[ - ] WWYD, we live in a really peaceful upscale area. A new kid moved here - he is 12. Made death threats re: Hitler to a Jewish boy. The school let it slip that it was his second arrest. He spend a day in Juvenille Hall for this latest thing- and only 2 days suspension! He comes back tomorrow- would you be more scared or less (after his punishment). frankly, more. he got a vacation from school for handing out a death threat. it's sad and the kid sounds troubled and like someone you should feel sorry for, but don't let that stop you from speaking to the teacher. DON'T ask them to move your kid's seat, as that'd be asking for a confrontation between your child and this disturbed boy, but just calmly express your concern to the teacher and ask for their help in keeping an eye out or something. ugh. if you haven't already, explain to your child that this boy is disturbed and has probably been on the receiving end of some pretty horrific treatment. just try to act normal around him. don't be mean of course, and don't ignore him. be courteous and receptive to courtesy, and if anything at all comes up, go straight to the teacher in private. tattletaling is bad, but in this case it's about getting this kid sorted out with some professional help. thanks, i'll suggest it. i already go to her exercise classes with her to try and keep her motivated, and i try to subtlely encourage her to eat right. she's trying, but it's so hard for her. it's like it's so easy for my dad to keep in shape but she's fighting uphill to lose a single pound. I would think the evening. Most good ways to lose weight involve not eating past say 8 pm, or no carbs past a certain time etc. So the evening is when the emotional eating may sneak in. Try to find an alternative that you can make into a ritual for her, such as a cup of herbal tea, instead of ice cream, etc. (I know it's not as yummy, but it won't stick to her hips either) [ Reply | More

i think it's how my dad is acting about it. i love him, but he resents her so bad for her weight. that isn't even all. she has a bad leg and the extra weight makes it hurt a lot, and she was even getting blood clots in her bag leg because of the excess weight. she's always getting upset over looking fat and i just want to do anything to help fix it. tell me about it :( - it is hard- diet and exercise- there is no circumventing that- if it is severe there is the lap band (although not the best I have heard- but many have great results)...it is tough- but I will bet it is more self esteem in a broader sense. FWIW, I do that Monday morning quarterback thing, too, and it sucks. I wouldn't beat myself up too much about it, though, because I think that most people are focused on berating themselves for the stupid things that they said/did to notice anything that's come from you anyway.
