That has got to be the stupidest comment I have ever heard on UB. Breastfeeding has nothing to do with being a good parent. Obviously if you think you are doing a disservice to your child by not breastfeeding then you should try hard to do it. But I just don't believe that it makes that much of a difference, I was never BF and am quite healthy and then I have cousins who were for a long time and they have a million allergies and other stuff. BF isn't for everyone [ Reply | More ]

I bf'd both my dc past age 2 and it was most definitely not for my own comfort and needs. People who didn't bf on demand and view bfing as nutrition only just don't understand the bfing relationship. It is much easier to wean a db who has been bfing on a schedule at 12 or 13 mos b/c it has a different meaning to the mother and child. I was ready to wean my dbs way before they were willing. I'm sick of not so secret sanctimommies, who judge the rest of the world's parenting. The fact that another parent works, lets her dc's watch tv, eat junk, didn't breasfeed is none of your business. Nor does the fact that you don't work, don't own a tv only feed your kids wheat germ, etc. make you a better parent. [ Reply | More ]

teacher here. I love moms like you and have no respect for moms like you describe. I might like the other moms as people, but they are not being parents. When I am in public (out to eat, on the bus, at the theater, etc.) these parents and their unruly offspring drive me nuts! It is so selfish of the parents (and harmful to otherwise potentially wonderful children) and we will all really pay the price as their children (all now soiled brats) hit their 20s. [ Reply | More ]

People who are overly protective: Don't let their kids play in the sandbox, don't let them get dirty, fall down, climb on anything, freak out if they put their mouth on a toy, childproof everything in sight, etc. I think it just makes their kids afraid of everything and sort-of helpless. I hate when you see large children curled up in a ball sitting in a stroller. Why aren't they being made to walk? We are raising a country of lazy children. When we were kids, strollers weren't made to hold 40lbs kids, and we walked. We complained, but walked. [ Reply | More ]

i grew up in the city and i was not in a stroller past about 2 yo. my mom took the bus when we needed to go farther than i could really handle walking. at 3.6 we took away the strollere and despite a bit of complaining in the beginning, DS walks everywhere now. if it's far or he's tired we take the bus. the stroller is about parental convenience - wanting to move quickly. I actually find the fixation on breastfeeding sorta creepy. Is it really all that strange that some women don't like the idea of a tiny beast suckling on their teet? Formula keeps getting better and better and perhaps one day it will nutritionally exceed natural breast milk. What will the santicmommies have to complain about then? Probably all the poor people who are too cheap and lazy to buy IQ-enhancing synthetic milk. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's interesting that women find BF creepy after having another human being growing inside them for 9 months. While I think that it's great the science and technology keep improving on infant formula, i think we're realized, esp in the last 10 years, that often what is natural is in fact better. All mammals nurse their young. I also think it behooves those moms who only eat organic and care about the quality of food to educate themsleves on the ingredients of infant formula because it's not so pretty. [ Reply | More ]

It prevented us from having a second child. I knew the chances of having a second child with autism were higher (and also realized that dh's family has other men who have "issues" which meant that we have it in our genes) and I just didn't think I could handle two kids with autism. I know we're supposed to have faith and roll with the punches, but I didn't think I could handle it. I was also scared that a second child might have issues more severe than our ds. Plus, I knew that it would be hard for me to enjoy the pregnancy and the first year of the baby's life always wondering and looking out for issues. [ Reply | More ]

DH does but only b/c I made him. I always did it (I'm older than he is) and I thought it would be agood for him to learn how himself. Sigh. He doesn't have a good system though and things are getting paid late. GGGRRRR [ Reply | More ]

he does. becuase I can't be trusted to do it on time. however, regardless of what my "jobs" are, if DH wants to do them, more power to him. No matter how cathertic they may be, I can always take a bubble bath instead :) [ Reply | More ]
