If you had a child with issues, mild or severe, would that prevent you from having any more? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no- and it did not! It can be more challenging, but still would not have stopped at that child [ Reply | More ]

It didn't. I have a sensory kid with socialization issues and having a second helped her. [ Reply | More ]

oops is your child's particular situation but i can tell you that people probably regret more not having another child than having another child just as a general comment [ Reply | More ]

i am thankfully not in this position. but my good friend has a child with issues and had more children after that. i think it's very hard for her. she spends a lot of extra time on the child who needs extra help. i don't think she regrets having the kids after, but it's very hard for her. and i also see some behavioral issues with the younger kids. it stopped us from #3 (ds was not dx until after #2 was born). not so much the fear of another child with SN as much as the fear of being able to give the attn, time, energy, $ to each one that they needed. it is really still painful but logically approrpiate decision. not so much emotionally appropriate. Actually that's how things go on the SN board. It is a much slower board. It's only because it's also x-posted to General Topics that it's noticeable. [ Reply | More ]

It prevented us from having a second child. I knew the chances of having a second child with autism were higher (and also realized that dh's family has other men who have "issues" which meant that we have it in our genes) and I just didn't think I could handle two kids with autism. I know we're supposed to have faith and roll with the punches, but I didn't think I could handle it. I was also scared that a second child might have issues more severe than our ds. Plus, I knew that it would be hard for me to enjoy the pregnancy and the first year of the baby's life always wondering and looking out for issues. [ Reply | More ]
