The farsightedness is causing the lazy eye. If you think glasses are not the right solution get a second opinion. My dd is also extremely farsighted and has strabismus so only one eye was focusing. She is behind in a lot of things because it went undiagnosed for until she was 4 yo. I wish she had been diagnosed earlier. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] HR moms: DH broke his foot on Monday and was let go on Friday. We've filed a disability claim with co. and plan to file for unemployment from state, but not sure whether I should wait to hear whether claim goes through before filing with state. Any advice on when to file for unemployment? We've investigated his pension, 401k, COBRA, flex spending account, as well. Am I forgetting anything? 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Did he break his foot on the job? Because otherwise usually disability doesn't kick in for several weeks. [ Reply | More ]

Foot unrelated to job. Disability starts after one week "waiting period." [ Reply | More ]

HR mom here - disability and unemployment should be unrelated, and you shouldn't have to file for one before the other. However, it all depends on what state you are in as to how disability works. In some states you file through the company, in others through the state. If your DH is getting any severance, you can ususually file for unemployment, but won't receive until he stops receiving severance. Definitely get both going right away though. His HR person should be able to walk through the disability process, even if he's already been let go. of course, if you have any reason to beleive that he was let go because of his comp claim, then i guess you could sue, but that would be a long shot. Thanks so much. In our state, we file for unemployment through state. This was not a workers' comp. claim, though I do believe the foot is related to being let go. What sort of claim would we possibly have? ADA? [ Reply | More ]

Sorry - i thought the broken foot was a workers comp thing. if its not, then you don't have a claim. ADA is really based on actual disability, and has more to do with the company making a reasonable accomodation to allow people with disabilities to work in any workplace. If he broke his foot in a non-work related incident and got let go, then its just unfortunate coincidence. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Took a friend of mine and her 3 dcs to my country club to swim. She spent almost the entire time talking to people she knew there, and not to me. She also was proud of herself for "introducing" me to so many people, although she in no way included me in her conversations beyond, "this is Mary." Is this normal behavior (on her part), or would you be a bit put off? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

sounds like he is withholding and having seepage around the feces. if that's the case, it does often just leak out. prune juice and/or stool softener would be helpful. [ Reply | More ]

if you weren't worrying about labor, you would be worrying about strawberry birthmarks or cleft palates or other birth defects they cannot detect via sonogram or current testing. basically, anxiety just comes with motherhood - you will put it in many places over time. labor is the current placeholder. once the baby is born, you'll move on to developmental milestones and other issues. so try to breathe. in and out. over and over. and just stay present. you are connected to millions of women throughout time during this period. best wishes to you and db :-) [ Reply | More ]

I was not stressed at all about the labor/delivery but was stressed about everything else. People have given birth for eons and lived through it. Just know it will hurt, you can get the epidural (God's gift to women, IMO) and everything will be just fine. [ Reply | More ]

Just make sure you take the meds they offer you and everything will be fine. Even if there are complications, hospitals are well equipped to deal with this stuff like its no big deal. I know you will still worry anyway, but this should hopefully make you feel a little better. [ Reply | More ]

It will be okay. You'll do great. I can't say I loved the experience, though lots of moms I respect say they did. It was scary for me, but bearable. You might want to consider a doula, I loved mine. And yes to the epidural, if you feel you want it. It helped me a lot. [ Reply | More ]
