you are insane if you believe that. I have to take dc from anderson to UES for a class every week, and it is brutal. also, how long will it take to get to rockerfeller center from your place? my guess is the whole commute won't be less than one hour if you are lucky and everything runs smoothly. there must be better options for you nearby [ Reply | More ]

excuse me? the trip to Rock Center is 10 minutes. Walk over to the uptown platform and another 15-20 minutes to 86th Street. 45 minutes, door-to-door. Coming from the UES is a different story. You have to take a 4/5/6 downtown, transfer, etc. etc. RI is on the F line. [ Reply | More ]

actually the D train does not go to 86th street. you will have to stop at 59th and switch for the B or C. sometimes the wait is 15-20 minutes. also, you are assuming you will step out of your house into a 10 minute train to rock ctr. won't happen. 1 hour if all goes well, more likely 1.5 hours each way. that is nuts. you will see [ Reply | More ]

no way can someone take a bus to subway, ride F train to Rock ctr, pick up D train to 59th, transfer to c line to 86th walk 1 avenue over and 2 blocks down to anderson in 35-45 minutes. it is physically impossible, unless all of these modes of transportaion are connected and the person does not have to leave one for the other with waits in between...including going from home to initial bus. you folks are delusional. your kid will suffer this commute. for somebody who does not know much about the subway system you sure pretend to be an expert. The commute is like that: a quick bus ride from door to subway station, downtown F to Rockefeller Center, transfer to uptown B train, get off on 86th St, walk a block over and two down. Total time of commute: somewhere between 40 and 50 minutes. Before you start telling me that this cannot be, please, try it first. [ Reply | More ]

All the G&T options require at least 2 subway lines and/or quite a bit of walking. LL: tram/walk/uptown 6. 11: F downtown/walk. 116: multiple choices (F, tram/N, tram/6). Those are the three closest programs to RI. [ Reply | More ]

as it stands now, they will over accept. No, you will not have a chance at the first choice spot later, if any spots open the MAY fill with people who move her and test over summer. BUT, The DOE is pretty reactive. If they see this develops into a huge problem with lots of seats left unfilled, they will find a way to deal. [ Reply | More ]

But there's no way that the DOE is going to be able to predict (esp with their track record) class sizes of 22/24/28. They're going to either under or over enroll, esp at A, Nest and LL. Why can't they think a couple steps ahead once in a while? [ Reply | More ]

Actually I think in the coveted programs, there won't be a problem. It's in the lesser known or untried District G&T programs where this will manifest itself. Those are the programs where people will actually turn offers down. And, numerically those programs affect FAR, FAR more children. [ Reply | More ]

the problem here is not gaming but those parents who hedged their bets by selecting schools they might not use. but they won't--that is my point. Example--Nest has 125 seats. It accepts 125 and turns down 100 who get a lower choice. Of the 125 it accepts just 100 enroll. 25 seats go unfilled. [ Reply | More ]

I see no problem with gaming. if you have a smart kid and are convinced of their ability and testing skills you put fewer choices. This is a public school, where most parents have no resources to try to game the system. So playing with the WL just gives advantage to UMC families (who are also more likely to have a good gen ed fallback). The no-WL thing works very well at HS level, it will work at elementary level too once they figure out the kinks. The WL has always been a huge mess. [ Reply | More ]
