[ - ] OK, we've been waffling a bit on making a decision about DS and kindergarten. We registered him at our zoned school before the test results came back; then we went all crazy after seeing his score and sent in the application. After we get the letter do we have to then register him at the G&T school? Or will his current registration remain in tact? We will turn down the G&T spot because I love our zoned school and want my baby boy close to home and in the same school as his big sister. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] I'm a nanny. I had been looking for awhile to find the 'right position' Last week a family I met with (who I had been in contact with for a few months and are friends with my 'friday evening baby-sitting clients' I've known for three years) decided they could now afford a nanny and wanted to hire me. They live 3 blocks from me, and the pay would be $700 for 50 hours. Right after I accept, I get an email from the family in Tribeca saying they are sorry timing didn't work( they are only starting the nanny hiring process) b/c they felt I would have been a great fit for them. I just now read an ad on craigslist that sounds like what I am looking for. I really hope I made the right decision. I feel like, even IF I got a better off now I can't take it b/c I already told the family I would work for them, and they are 'linked' to people I am close to and have known for three years. What do you think? 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

That's why I was so quick to accept, and I feel like I know this family already. It's an 8:30 start and 3 blocks as opposed to taking the express bus ($41/week metro card) to Tribeca to work, which is about half an hour-45 min commute. Only thing, I LOVE working in Tribeca and could have maybe made $800/week plus metro card had I spoke with that family a little more. I hate that I am second guessing my decision now. Dyker Heights, near bensonhurst. Nannies are NOT popular around here so it's actually high for this area. But that's my point had I kept looking to work in Tribeca I probably could have made more, which is why I am now thinking "did I do the right thing?" [ Reply | More ]

I think so too, especially because I do know these people. IF I really thought the extra $100/week (assuming they did pay for the metro card) was worthall the extra "stress" I would still feel weird getting out of it, because they are friends with the family I sit for, I wouldn't want any hard feelings on that end. [ - ] my sister's kids are totaly angels. i have never seen any of them even have a temper tantrum. granted, i did not live with them. but it makes me wonder, are they over-controlled? i was once at her house and my neice, who is now 13, she must have been 2.5 or younger then, was playing the piano. my sister said she wanted to play. my neice siad no, and my sister asked, (in a nice tone)"do you want to go to your crib?" the kid jumped off the piano bench. i thought then that that was a bit controlling for someone that young. thoughts/ 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i think it's just setting limits. personally, i don't like punishing dd with going to her bed. bed should be a good place. but if your neices are mellow happy kids who listen, she must be doing something right. i'm sure it also has something to do with your neice's personalities. [ Reply | More ]

i don't know the situation. nor do i know what came before that. perhasp neice had been playing bf and had been told no. my feelin gis, if your sister is too controlling, a younger child will go along with it (altho may act out) but a teen will most definitely act out. there are so many aspects to discipline, it's hard to know from jsut this one example. i'd say that's too early. most peds say 4/5 months is the earliest. 6-9 months the norm. but some kdis don't start solids until later. dd refused all solids until 11 mo. and didn't eat regularly until at least a few months after that (altho i think she was unusal in that sense) [ Reply | More ]
