my sister's kids are totaly angels. i have never seen any of them even have a temper tantrum. granted, i did not live with them. but it makes me wonder, are they over-controlled? i was once at her house and my neice, who is now 13, she must have been 2.5 or younger then, was playing the piano. my sister said she wanted to play. my neice siad no, and my sister asked, (in a nice tone)"do you want to go to your crib?" the kid jumped off the piano bench. i thought then that that was a bit controlling for someone that young. thoughts/ [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i think it's just setting limits. personally, i don't like punishing dd with going to her bed. bed should be a good place. but if your neices are mellow happy kids who listen, she must be doing something right. i'm sure it also has something to do with your neice's personalities. [ Reply | More ]

why would one want to set limits like that? why not say, 'you can play for 3 omre minutes and then it is my turn"? [ Reply | More ]

i don't know the situation. nor do i know what came before that. perhasp neice had been playing bf and had been told no. my feelin gis, if your sister is too controlling, a younger child will go along with it (altho may act out) but a teen will most definitely act out. there are so many aspects to discipline, it's hard to know from jsut this one example.
